Four Bills on PBM Transparency Introduced at Capitol
On Feb. 22, four MMA-supported bills were introduced that attempt to bring transparency to the relationship between pharmacy benefit managers, pharmacies, health plans and patients. Read more here
Admin Costs Continue to Increase for Health Plans
In 2016, administrative spending by Minnesota's health plans reached about $1.8 billion, or 7.7 percent of their total expenditures, according to an analysis released Feb. 22 by the Health Economics Program of the Minnesota Department of Health. This is the highest level since 2009. Read more here
Opioid Discussion to Feature DEA Whistleblower
The MMA is co-sponsoring a community discussion on the opioid epidemic that will feature a DEA whistleblower featured on 60 Minutes and legislators on Feb. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul. Read more here.
State Opens Grant Process for Opioid Abuse Prevention Projects
The Minnesota Department of Health is now accepting grant proposals for its Opioid Abuse Community Prevention Pilot Projects, which is intended to reduce opioid abuse through the use of controlled substance care teams and community-wide coordination of abuse-prevention initiatives. A total of $700,000 of state general funds is available for the grants. Read more here
Watch for Physician Survey from MMA Next Week
Next week, the MMA and its research partner, Data IQ, will send out a survey to gather feedback on the association and the practice of medicine in Minnesota. Dementia Summit Planned for March 22 in St. Cloud
The Central MN Council on Aging and Stearns Benton Medical Society will host the 2018 Dementia Summit for St. Cloud-area physicians and community members on March 22 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the River's Edge Convention Center, 10 4th Ave. S. in St. Cloud. Register here.
MNCM Puts Out Call for Presentations
MN Community Measurement is seeking presentations for its Annual Seminar in September. Presentations can be stories of success and challenges, innovative best practices, lessons learned and more. Proposals are due March 9. Click here for more details. 
Deadline Nears for Med students, Residents and Fellows Poster Program
Minnesota Medicine is inviting medical students, residents and fellows to submit abstracts of original research or clinical vignettes by Feb. 28. The submissions demonstrating appropriate quality will be selected for publication in the magazine and authors will be invited to present their work in a poster session at the MMA's 2018 Annual Conference in St. Paul. Submissions should be no longer than 500 words plus references. Research abstracts should include a brief description of the research problem, methodology and results, and a discussion of the findings. Clinical vignettes should include a description of the case, the diagnosis and treatment approach, and a discussion of the implications of the case. Submit your abstracts and vignettes here. Registration Now Open for Day at the Capitol
Registration is now open for the MMA's 2018 Day at the Capitol, which takes place on March 14.
