Senator Rand Paul was kind enough to write us that he and three other Sentors have introduced Addiction Treatment Access Improvement Act that expands access to medication-assisted therapies and codifies a 2016 regulation that increases the number of patients that qualified physicians can treat with such therapies. The bill will help fight opiod addiction. Here is the Bill

 Should medical providers be required to publish prices? Like this one does?

   Transparency -  Lack of competition and keeping the consumer ignorant is a big problem with health care. A clinic on one side of the street might charge $8,000 for a procedure with a 50% success rate while the clinic across the street might charge $5,500 with a 90% success rate. 
   You will never know unless the clinics publish their prices.
 You cannot get the price of pharmeceuticals before delivery.  Your editor has experienced pharmacicts saying "what do you are how much we charge?Your insurance covers all but your deductible and that is the same regardless where you go. Duh, if my insurance is overcharged they pass it on to me in higher rates.  
 You will never know unless the pharmacies publish their prices. 
  Some procedures are not covered by insurance. Some of these professionals do publish prices, and prices have fallen from the competition. Driving along !-75 or I-69 we see billbiards with prices published for lasic eye surgery and dental implants. Less this year than last.

DOJ/FBI officials headed to prison? 

Confirmation Found, Obama DOJ And FBI Used Dossier For Warrant To Spy On Trump - Fusion GPS hired Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to compile the dossier which made numerous unverified claims suggesting that Trump colluded with the Russians to win the election. Clinton's campaign and the DNC paid nearly $9 million for the dossier, raising questions about why the FBI used an unverified hit piece funded by Democrats to trigger the investigation into unproven Russia collusion.

Among Bills we are watchin g! CALL!

Tax cut bills are getting serious looks.  Last year the House turned down a proposal to cut income taxes two tenths of one percent ($ 0.002). A fly spec and a small fraction of rollbacks promised years ago. 
   
The Governor seems to go into apoplexy at the mere hint of even slowing his incessant tax and fee increases so foreign to Republican principles.

We have a National leader who gets it, and knows cutting taxes spurs the economy creating jobs and walla - generating more revenue even from smaller slices of the pie.

Some of our legislators are getting it, too. With the veto override Wednesday and bills to increase Michigan deductions we might have a creeping start to economic sanity again. 

Taxes are outrageous.
That $7,000 rebate on a new vehicle gets taxed $420 for the money you didn't pay.  Likewise that rebate or "discount" at Kohls, Menards, Penny's, Costco etc. 
The 10 year old car worth $4,000 gets taxed annually at its MSRP of $50,000? 
It is truly anti-American!  

Let's demand Michigan gets with the program . Call a legislator and ask/demand at least SOME tax relief. And if they sponsored a regulation and/or fee increase, please ask them to drop it!

  HB 4220  ("Smart" meters) has already had several committee hearings. It would give utility customers advance notice before switching to a smart meter, require utilities to explain the process and how to opt out, and generally make it easier for people to opt out of a smart meter.     That bill hasn't been reported yet, but Glenn said he hopes a new amendment - one that would get rid of the financial cost of opting out if the person self-reports their meter usage - will get him enough votes to pass the bill out of committee. More

Did you know there are no "smart meters" that are UL approved? Can you imagine DTE and Consumers insisting on putting on your house, products of questionable safety that are not UL listed, tested, certified, approved?

After midnight, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, on the Senate floor blamed Democrats for "the shoe-horning of illegal immigration into this debate." But Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, said he even offered full funding for the border wall in an earlier meeting Friday with Mr. Trump.  Article

This time do not pay them for their days off, when funding is restored.

++ US Budget to increase throughout Trump Administrations?  The 2018 Trump budget projects increases through 2027. This, to conservatives, is not acceptable. Trump promised to cut, cut, cut. That is what is needed and what we accept. 
   One are of interest is cuts in foreign aid - The Budget proposes to reduce or end direct funding for international programs and organizations whose missions do not substantially advance U.S. foreign policy interests.
  The Budget also renews attention on the appropriate U.S. share of international spending at the United Nations, at the World Bank, and for many other global issues where the United States currently pays more than its fair share. In addition, this Budget request focuses on making the Department of State and USAID leaner, more efficient, and more effective, and streamlines international affairs agencies more broadly through the elimination of Federal funding to several smaller agencies.    This is one of the best debates we have seen. We believe a CocCon would be National Suicide in this political environment. We change public policies by changing public opinions. Farris argues in West Virginia that Democrats should support ConCon to control their own mine policy. Trump did that. Farris argues Democrats in Washington State should support ConCon because it might con control EPA policies. Trump did that. WE DID THAT - by changing public opinions and changing a top politician. THAT is the only and safest way to control governments. Turn most of their functiions back to We The People.  Debate

Fiat Chrysler to invest more than $1 billion in Michigan plant and give $2,000 bonuses in response to tax reform 

++ Legislature overrides Snyder veto  - passes modest sales tax relief for auto trade-ins. "Changing the tax code without a plan to pay for it challenges the conservative fiscal responsibility of the past seven years," Snyder said. Freep News  Choke! Nothing conservative or responsible about seven years of perpetual spending and taxing increases, or indexing taxes so bureaucrats and projects get perpetual increases, needed or not, forever! Not once in seven years have we had a zero-based budget. It seems to be merely a question of how much more they spend than the previous year. Let's hope this gives the legislature the legs top stand up and demand Michigan provide much neded tax cuts! 

++ Without tweak, federal tax changes could cost Michiganders $1.6B  - President Donald Trump in late December signed sweeping tax changes. Part of the package was eliminating the personal exemption, something the feds offset with a higher standard deduction. But Michigan's tax code lets residents claim those federal exemptions.
     Doing away with them would result in a tax increase - something the governor's office said in a press release would cost Michigan residents $840 million in 2018 and $1.6 billion in 2019.  
  State Treasurer Nick Khouri said in a Monday interview if Michiganders are not allowed to take any personal exemptions, a family of four would see a $680 increase on their state income taxes. More

Detroit Schools Spend More, Educate Less -
Eighth-highest spending delivers nation's worst reading scores for low-income children. Detroit $14,259 per student per year and climbing. Even with all that money, the district still generated the nation's worst reading scores among low-income students. The Miami-Dade district spends $8,725 per student (some $5,500 less than Detroit), and children from low-income households there had the best literacy rates among large cities.  (Thanks, CapCon)  More
