Seaside surgeons named as "Top Doctors"
Drs. Zehr and Goldberg repeat as winners

Two Seaside surgeon partners have been named to Castle Connolly's regional "Top Doctors" list for 2018. Seaside CEO Robert J. Zehr, M.D., was recognized for the 14th consecutive year. Dr. Zehr specializes in hip and knee surgery. Steven S. Goldberg, M.D., has been honored every year since 2011. Dr. Goldberg specializes in shoulder surgery and sports medicine.

Fewer than 35,000 physicians - less than 5% of the nation's licensed physicians - have been selected as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. identifies top doctors in America and provides consumers with detailed information about their education, training and special expertise in printed guides and online directories. It is important to note that doctors do not and cannot pay to be included in any Castle Connolly guide or online directory.

The exhaustive  process of naming a Castle Connolly Top Doctor begins with thousands of interviews. Because the Castle Connolly honors are determined by their peers, surveys are sent to physicians and healthcare professionals.  In addition to mail and online surveys, the Castle Connolly physician-led research team makes thousands of phone calls each year, talking with leading specialists, chairs of clinical departments and vice presidents of medical affairs, seeking to identify top specialists for most diseases and procedures.

Seaside surgeon first in SWFL to receive ASES honor

Steven S. Goldberg, M.D. (pictured above), a surgeon partner at Seaside Surgery Center, was inducted into the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) as a candidate member during the organization's annual meeting in October. Dr. Goldberg is the first orthopaedic surgeon in Southwest Florida receive this honor. Membership in the ASES is by invitation only. Candidate membership is awarded only after the applicant has completed a fellowship with an ASES member and has been sponsored by two active members.

Although it has "American" in its name, the organization is actually worldwide, with 733 members drawn from 27 countries in addition to the United States. Only 26 members are from the state of Florida. The society's mission is to support quality shoulder and elbow care through the ethical practice of leadership, medical education, research and quality, and patient advocacy.
