Nick's Corner
It was Father’s day. It began as an uneventful morning at a Florida Fire Station, but that all changed when the door bell rang. There stood a young woman looking exhausted and frightened. Her face was streaked with tears. She was holding something very tight, wrapped in a nice blanket. She said “I want to leave her here at a Safe Haven.” The fire fighter said, “Are you sure?” and she replied, “yes, it is the only way. Please take good care of her”. She kissed her, placed the baby in his arms, then turned and left.

The young mother in this story actually called the Safe Haven for Newborns toll free confidential 24/7 helpline for assistance prior to leaving the baby in safety with the fire fighter. Two days after the original call, she called again. She had two letters for us to give to the adoptive parents, one for them and the other to be read to the baby, now called Gloria Hope, at the appropriate time. We met the mother at a church. It was a very emotional meeting.
The message to Gloria Hope is: “You did not think I loved you because I gave you up but that is exactly why I did it, I didn’t have a future and I wanted you to have one. Gloria Hope is now 15 years old. She is a beautiful child inside and out and loves school. She has told me “Uncle Nick, I am on the honor roll”. It is so heartwarming to see her grow up physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually in a loving home.
A Safe Haven for Newborns stands up and speaks up for the most innocent and vulnerable among us -- newborns. As of this writing 277 precious newborns now have a future and lots of love with their forever families.

I believed from the beginning if only one life was saved all of our efforts would be worthwhile.

Until next month, sending you my best wishes, Nick
What People Are Saying About Safe Haven
17 Years Old and Afraid
I am 17 years old, a high school student and became pregnant. I was so afraid to tell my mother, because my brother who is younger than me had just fathered a child and she went bonkers. I felt she would not be able to handle my situation as well. I was considering my options and called A Safe Haven for Newborns, after finding their # in a community resource guide and at a health clinic, and explained my situation. They were very understanding, offered with my permission to contact a school resource officer at my school, without providing my name to see if they could assist me in advising my mother. The Resource officer said she could, so Safe Haven made the connection with my permission. Of course, my mother was upset but came to terms with the situation and fully supports me and her granddaughter. I called and thanked the founder so much for their support and guidance and offered to share information about Safe Haven.
Thank You For All You Do

I pray that God will continue to bless organizations such as yours and that you will continue to help those babes who's life is so precious. Thank you for all you do! ~ Randi Valdes
