Private Teacher Edition
Come join SDYS for our first meeting of Beyond the Staff. Enjoy an evening of food, workshops, student performances, and social time!
In this episode of Beyond the Staff, come meet and speak with Mr. Anthony Kim, Overture Strings and Debut Strings Conductor and Julie Tweeten, SDYS Parent. They will be discussing what goes into selecting a private teacher and what the benefits are of your student taking private lessons.

SDYS Concert Tickets Now Available!
- All 2017-18 season concerts are on sale through our website at www.sdys.org or by clicking:
- Tickets for the Winter Ovation Concert will be on sale through SDYS until 12 noon on Thursday, February 1st. After 12 noon on February 1st you can purchase tickets at the Jacobs Music Center Box Office at 619-235-0804. Jacobs Music Center will charge $5 more per ticket. Student/child tickets will remain the same price at $10. Free tickets will not be available after February 1st at 12 noon.
- Special Offer: Purchase (2 or more) Adult tickets, and receive 2 (or more) free tickets, no limit! Free tickets must be requested at the time of ticket purchase. SDYS T-shirts and Hoodies
T-shirt and hoodies orders will be placed monthly. Please check sizes and measurements very carefully before ordering as t-shirts and hoodies cannot be returned or exchanged.
The first deadline for orders is January 16th. Items will be available for pickup beginning January 31st. Orders can be picked up at SDYS office during normal business hours, or at student rehearsals

We are accepting wind and string instruments that will all be going to conservatory and community students that need them. You can drop them off Monday - Friday during regular business hours, or on the weekends during rehearsals.

International Music Sessions
A premiere summer program that celebrates cultural exchange through music.
Study with world class artists and meet musicians from all over the world!
Welcoming students grades 4-12: all orchestral instruments, piano, guitar & voice
At least 2 years of prior private instruction required. Last year, several SDYS students applied and thoroughly enjoyed their experience!
IMS classes include: Private lessons, Chamber Music, Yoga, Improvisation, Rhythm, and much more.
IMS Tuition: $1000
UCSD Room & Board fee: $700 (optional)
Audition Requirements: 2 contrasting works
June 24-30 at St. James By The Sea Episcopal Church, La Jolla

National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute
Every summer, approximately 60 students (ages 15-20) from all over the United States, as well as a number of other countries, meet in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center to attend the National Symphony Orchestra's
Summer Music Institute (SMI). The program is designed to expose and prepare students for a 21st century music career while giving them direct access to NSO musicians through private lessons, coachings, side-by-side rehearsals and more!
Each student accepted into the program attends on scholarship, which includes housing, lessons, and local transportation; sometimes provided by WC/NSO, during their stay. Round-trip transportation to and from Washington, DC is not included. Additionally, a stipend for cost of food during the institute is not provided.

Through the San Diego Foundation
Community Scholarship Program, San Diego County students can receive the financial assistance they need to pursue their educational goals. As the largest private non-university scholarship provider in the county, the Community Scholarship Program operates more than 160 funds and awarded in excess of $2.7 million to more than 900 students last year alone.
Other San Diego Foundation Scholarships include opportunities for aspiring teachers, active military residents and women in science and technology, among many others. We also encourage students to seek out
Local Scholarships exclusively offered through other regional organizations. By providing students with financial support to further their education, together, we help launch bright careers and grow a vibrant region.

Student Rights to Arts Learning.
