OML Holds Municipal Training Event in Pawnee
Daniel McClure, Kelly Danner, and Aspen Robert had an opportunity to conduct a municipal training event with the Pawnee City Council this past week. Topics included municipal statutory powers, budgeting strategies, community building, and other best practices. Pawnee Mayor Brad Sewell said "Pawnee's elected officials range in experience from many years to a few months, and I believe everyone benefited tremendously from the session.  OML offers well-informed training and resources from an outside perspective, which I believe invites all of us locals to focus on working cooperatively in the months ahead." Guymon Mayor Appointed As OML Board Member for District 11
OML is proud to announce that the Honorable Kim Peterson, Mayor of the City of Guymon, has been appointed to the OML Board of Directors. Mayor Peterson has replaced Richard Chapman for District 11 and states "It is an honor to follow Richard Chapman in this position."

Final Week To Nominate! OML Board Towns East Call For Nominations  Deadline: February 23, 2018
The OML District Towns East Board seat will become vacant February 1, 2018 due to Dennis Heath's resignation from the OML Board. Nominations will be received until Friday, February 23rd, 2018 and will be presented to the OML Board of Directors on March 7, 2018.  Call for Nominations Letter and Sample Resolution Here.
Community Leadership Development Class 6 Graduates In Muskogee 
The Community Leadership Development Class 6 held the 2018 graduation ceremony on Friday, February 9th at the Best Western Conference Center in Muskogee.  The class enjoyed a reception at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame hosted by the City of Muskogee and the Muskogee Chamber of Commerce. Their final assignment was a group project to create a successful response to a RFP to make a strong business case to show a competitive advantage in the food processing industry.
Next New Officials Institute March 15th in Lawton
On March 15th in Lawton, OML will host a New Officials Institute at the Great Plains Technology Center. Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected and appointed officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues. 

The NOI teaches the statutorily required topics such as Municipal Budget Requirements, the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Ethics, Procedures for Conducting Meetings, Conflict of Interest, and Purchasing Procedures
 
State law requires each person elected for the first time to a position of a municipality on or after January 1, 2005, OR appointed for the first time on or after July 1, 2006, to attend an institute for municipal officials. The statute is codified at Title 11 O.S., Section 8-114.   For future dates or more information, see the  NOI page on our website .

Topping Out Ceremony Held at Norman Public Library Central

Norman residents, along with City officials and those from the Pioneer Library System, attended a Topping Out Ceremony for the new Norman Public Library Central on Wednesday, February 7 at 10 a.m.

This summit provides essential updates on water and environmental issues for cities and towns. GrantFinder - The Ultimate Grant Search Tool
Access to over 7,500 grants
GrantFinder is an online tool giving license holders the ability to search thousands of grants to possibly utilize in your community.  OMSC has signed an agreement with GrantFinder allowing our members the ability to purchase a license for $50 per year rather than the normal price of $1,195 per year.  There are typically over 7,500 grants to choose from with the ability to use 10 search filters to narrow your search parameters.  If you have any questions, contact Nancee Morris via email or visit our website.
