As we continue our study of the Beatitudes during Lent, we will contemplate our brokenness and the ways in which we are all
the poor in spirit and those who mourn. Melanie Marsh Baum's sermon is entitled "Utterly Helpless"
and scriptures are
Psalm 30:4-12
and Mark 2:1-12
. Our lay worship leader is Keasia Jones.

Music Notes: We welcome the Beckwith Handbells to our service today, presenting an arrangement of the African-American Spiritual Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen by congregation member Dr. Jennifer Conner. The choir presents an evocative setting of the text Drop, drop slow tears by the 16th century British poet and priest Phineas Fletcher. The text vividly portrays tears as a vehicle through which love and reconciliation is encountered. Alternate liturgical responses for the season of Lent replace the customary Gloria Patri and Doxology. In the spirit of reflection, our service concludes with a choral postlude - an early American hymn, Wayfaring Stranger, reminding us of how the Lenten journey towards Holy Week reflects our own spiritual journey through life.
The children will have Sunday School this week.

Food Pantry Collection: This Sunday the children will collect food and financial donations for our Covenant Food Pantry, open the last Wednesday and Friday of each month, Thursday afternoons in the Connection Center for students, and for emergencies. The Pantry can especially use tuna fish, fruit cups, canned chili, beef stew, pasta, spaghetti sauce, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, pudding snacks and canned vegetables. Thank you for your ongoing support!
Renowned concert organist Dr. Craig Cramer
from the University of Notre Dame (Southbend, IN) will play a concert on the Newberry Baroque organ on Sunday, February 25 at 4pm. Admission is free.

Lent Adult Education Series: "Going Out"
Every two weeks during Lent, we will engage with a
different Covenant mission partner. This week, we welcome our partners from Garden Valley Neighborhood House to share about their work and the community they serve. The conversation will begin at 11:30 am in Beckwith Hall. Next week on Saturday, March 3rd, all are welcome to join us as we "Go Out" to Garden Valley to help them with their weekend food distribution.

We pray for Judy Bourne, Andrew Bullen (Melanie Marsh Baum's cousin), Akeya Clark (Marie Jones' niece), Marlene Finkenthal (David Finkenthal's mother), Eliseo Hairston (Shirley Thompson's grandson deployed to the Pacific), Greg Madison, Mollie Hoar (family friend of Gene and Diane Papp), Chick Holtkamp, Elizabeth Mierke, Ward Porch, Sue Salvator, Liam Stewart and Emilee Stewart (Mindy Stewart's nephew and sister), and Louise Wolfcale. Amy Starr Redwine will be out of the office Monday, February 26 through Wednesday, February 28 attending the the NEXT Church National Gathering in Baltimore, Maryland, and co-facilitating a conversation group with the Rev. Andrew Kukla, pastor First Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho, on the topic "Revitalizing Ministry." .

Member Spotlight
Congregation member and active elder Suchitra Nelson is the
assistant dean and clinical and translational research professor at the CWRU School of Dental Medicine. Suchi is leading a team of researchers from the dental, medical, and nursing schools, as well as UH doctors, on a study that aims to get more primary-care physicians to refer low-income children patients to dentists as a routine part of wellness visits. Please read about the $3.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health that Suchi and her team recently received in support of their research. Congratulations!

 During Lent, spend time each day reflecting on scripture using the book Wondrous Encounters: Scriptures for Lent by Richard Rohr. Rohr's daily meditations are not for the sake of mere information, but for
our transformation into our original "image and likeness," which is the very image of God. What always and finally matters for all of us is encounter!

Upcoming Events
Apostles Build, Thursday, April 5 and Saturday, April 7, 9:00am-3:00pm
Join us again this year (our fourth!) to help rehab houses through the Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity Apostles Build. Our first two workdays of the year are fast approaching. This year we will be working to rehab a house in the West Park neighborhood on the west side of Cleveland. As the first group to work on the house, we plan to get it off to a great start. Please sign up in the church office if you are interested in working on the house, or providing a group lunch, for either or both of these days. Talk with Jim Prince for more information.
