Recommended Wardrobe Storage Tips.As the temperature starts to warm up in March & April you may want to start planning now for storing your winter wardrobe.
Building your wardrobe takes time and money and protecting and caring for it should be a priority.By properly storing your clothes you will ensure that your wardrobe will look good and last you many years. Clothes often become wrinkled, musty, and damaged by insects while in storage. The following tips will help you keep your clothes in tip top condition whether you're wearing them or not.
1) Clothes that have been worn should be cleaned prior to storing. Once a garment is worn, it becomes laced with your body oils. Body oils can cause damage to certain fabrics , attract clothing moths and other insects, and make your clothing smell bad., Also, it is possible that you may have clear stains on your clothes that you may not realize are there until they turn yellow or brown with age.
2) It is best to either hang your clothes in a spare room, or store in air tight plastic storage containers. If you have a bedroom that you don't use and the closet is full, we recommend that you hang your suits, pants, shirts, blouses, dresses, and coats on a rolling rack and cover to keep the dust off. It's also important that you use high quality hangers and hang your clothes up properly to prevent wrinkles. We recommend folding your sweaters and knit tops and storing those garments in air tight plastic storage containers. Please remember that it is very important to clean your clothes prior to storing.
3) If clothes are stored in a basement you may find that they are musty, moldy, and smell bad when you take them out of storage the next season. If you plan on storing your seasonal wardrobe in your basement, it is very important that you store them in air tight plastic storage containers. Basements are damp and the moisture is what causes your clothes to smell musty, grow mold, and smell bad. We also recommend that you put cedar blocks or scented dryer sheets in the plastic containers along with your clothes to keep them smelling fresh. Again, it is very important to clean your clothes prior to storing.
3) Be creative! You may be able to store plastic storage containers under beds.
