February showers bring...
Ice - lots and lots of ice. It's really very pretty, if you could just look out the window, and didn't have to go anywhere. So many people we know have driveways and sidewalks that have turned into skating rinks. We get snow, it freezes, it rains, then thaws, and then the cycle begins again. It has become the norm here in Vermont in February.

What's the answer? For many of us, we retreat to our sewing spaces when we can, for our fix of color, of fabric, and of relaxation. How many of you sew in silence? Or to the radio or television? Everyone has their own comfort zone, where all is right with the world. In the past few days, we've seen several customers coming in just to look, or to wander in the quiet, among the colors. Everyone is trying to find inspiration, or just trying to find a little peace. Let's all try to spend some time in our personal comfort zones - we can all use a little peace right now.

Just a quick reminder to the Moda Blockheads: we are meeting this Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m., after the Mystery Quilt. Bring your blocks, and we'll have one last reveal, to see how everyone's projects are coming along. We look forward to seeing you!

Vermont Shop Hop 2018

It's already mid-February, so Shop Hop 2018 is coming up fast! Passports are $7 each, and this year's premium is a kit for making a lovely tulip block in the stained glass style. Fabric for the block and instructions are included.

For fun, Judy has taken the tulip block and changed its look (photo at right) - check out the easy fusing, and hand embroidery that spices it up and simplifies it a bit!

Farmhouse Reds
from Minick & Simpson
by Moda

Red and white quilts are always popular with quilters. This new Moda line is quite elegant, and customers are noticing the bolts as soon as they come in the door! One of our mystery quilters is using this line for the upcoming class - it's going to be just beautiful!

Tall Grass
by Marcus Fabrics

Good greens can be difficult to come by for Reproduction quilts. Judy found these to add to our inventory - they're quite lovely, and with small prints, you can use them anywhere in your quilt.

Sea Glass
from Nancy Rink
by Marcus Fabrics

We've just been telling customers that aquas and teals have not been trending recently, then these came through the door! Wouldn't these make a gorgeous bag? How about a pretty pillowcase, or a stunning skirt?

Color Influence

by Marcus Fabrics

Sometimes, all your project needs is one fabric that doesn't draw attention to itself, but isn't quite solid, either. This line will fit the bill nicely, with its textured look of hand-woven cotton.

Batiks

by Hoffman

So far, this appears to be a year filled with medium to light batik fabrics, in blue/teal/purple/green combinations. Here we have several of those that would work as either interesting backgrounds, or pretty design/focus fabrics for a more pastel project. And some of them are already disappearing in a hurry!

Notions, News & Other Notes

We're not carrying lots of precuts these days - the trend of using them seems to have passed, at least in our area. But Judy ordered both layer cakes and charm packs of Moda's Farmhouse Reds, because we have 13 bolts from the line, and combining the yardage with precuts gets you a gorgeous, classic quilt in less time!

We have lots of customers who compliment us on our color selections, whether it's what we put together for their projects, or for our own. So Judy thought it might be fun to have our staff create a new fat quarter bundle every month. Kay chose the fabrics for February, and don't they make you want to start a new project? And it can be something small (and fun), since there are only six fabrics! Find them in a basket near our produce section.

Thank you, as always, for your business, and thank you for being our customer. We love that you still believe in shopping local!
