Dear Colleagues,

The Science Flight Planning for the SOFIA/EXES Science Flight Series OC6-E (March 27 - April 11) is now under way. Initial planning shows that, because of the anisotropic distribution of proposed Cycle 6 targets, scheduling the highest priority targets imply significant, but unavoidable, dead-legs over the series.

SOFIA Science and Mission Operations (SMO) is therefore soliciting Director's Discretionary Time (DDT) proposals for observations that can take advantage of these dead-legs. Targets for such observations should be in the general area of RA=5-8h and Dec>+50deg. Depending on the specific targets and requested modes, up to ~400min of total time could be available, over several flights.

Because of the tight planning schedule, such proposals need to be submitted by Wednesday, January 24

Those interested should follow the instructions for DDT proposal generation and submission listed on the SOFIA web site.

Information about EXES modes and capabilities can be found in the SOFIA Cycle 6 Observers' Handbook

Questions about the instrument or capabilities should be directed to sofia_help@sofia.usra.edu . Programmatic questions should be directed to bg@sofia.usra.edu .
