Prayer Focus for This Week

Pray for the voiceless around the world. Pray for women and children who are treated as objects or possessions. Pray for those who feel hopeless about their circumstances, whether personal or political. Pray for all who are oppressed and who have no one to advocate for them.  Pray that God will use each of us to be a voice of hope.

THIS WEEK AT SAINT MARK

Here is What You Need to Know
  • There will be only ONE session at 9 am in the Saint Mark Center
  • We are co-sponsoring the event with Trinity Baptist Church
  • We want to raise $8000 (out of a total of $14,500) to purchase the ingredients to package 50,000 meals that will go to a part of the world where hunger is a life or death problem.
  • Brochures and offering envelopes will be in the bulletins this Sunday and will be available in the atrium and Narthex.
  • Make your check out to Saint Mark UMC and note that it is for Rise Against Hunger.  You may put your envelope in the offering plate on Sunday mornings, or drop it off at the church office during the week. Help us reach our goal of $8000 by no later than February 25.
  • This Sunday, you may sign up to participate in the meal packaging event.  You will find volunteers in the atrium before the 11:15 service, or in the Narthex following the 11:15 service.
  • You may also make your reservation online.  Click here to sign up today.
  • One of the major benefits of this event is gathering together as the larger community, and working together for a common purpose - alleviating hunger.  We will work alongside and enjoy the fellowship of children, youth and adults of different faiths and races.

CHURCH AND SOCIETY

Bishop Holston's Statement on
Trump's Immigrant Remarks
(Bishop Holston is the bishop of
the South Carolina Conference
of the United Methodist Church.)

". . . As a people of faith opposed to racism and committed to social justice, we again find ourselves called to witness, advocacy and prayer. We are compelled to clearly and without hesitation advocate against prejudice, hate and racism."

Click here to read Bishop Holston's entire statement.

Refugee U.S. Mayor-elect is
United Methodist

Wilmot Collins recently made big news by getting elected mayor of a small city.

Media outlets across the U.S. and even internationally shared how a refugee from Liberia, in West Africa, was chosen last month to lead overwhelmingly white Helena, Montana.

Overlooked in the coverage was Collins' United Methodist background. But he's happy to talk about it, including his membership at Helena's Covenant United Methodist Church.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Stewardship Update

THANK YOU!  While there are a few pledges still missing, there is still much to celebrate. 228 households have collectively pledged $855,432.52 (slightly above 2017 totals) toward our 2018 budget. 85 of these increased their pledge, 92 kept their pledge the same, 27 were new pledges and 24 decreased theirs - overall, this is fantastic, and we DO appreciate your loyal support of the many good things that are happening at Saint Mark - lives are being changed! THANK YOU!!

We REALLY need the few pledges, that are still out, turned in the next several days so the Finance Committee, at its 1/25 meeting, can better plan for the support of Saint Mark ministries for 2018. Click here to pledge online OR click here to go to the Saint Mark UMC home page and click on the last link under the "Connect" tab, OR simply contact the Saint Mark UMC Operations Manager, Karen Holcombe with your pledge by calling (864) 882-2603.

Again, thank you!
Your Stewardship Team

We Are Looking for Singers and Instrumentalists!

You are invited to join our Celebration Praise Team! Do you sing or play an instrument?  Do you enjoy contemporary worship? If so, this "gig" is for you!

There are only two "rules."
1.  Love Jesus
2.  Plan to have fun

For more information, or to volunteer, click here to contact John Glenn, our Celebration Worship Leader.
Thank You, Saint Mark!

On behalf of our Saint Mark United Methodist Women, thank you for supporting the shortbread mission fundraiser during the Christmas season. The generosity of our congregation allowed us to donate to these local missions:   Ripple of One - $1,200; Pastor's Discretionary Fund - $1,200; and Saint Mark UMC Ann Hope Feed the Hungry Ministry - $1,200. Thank you for helping these missions by purchasing shortbread!
