FIFTY-NINTH EDITION

February 15, 2018

Dear Brother and Sister Retired Member:

I am writing to inform you that at our 52nd Annual CAL FIRE Local 2881 Convention the convention delegates voted to approve Resolution FIN 5-18 AM - CDF Historical Society and Museum. This resolution will help to provide a stable funding mechanism for the CDFF Historical Society and Museum, which currently is managed by long-time retiree Jerry Glover and volunteers.

From this resolution there will be a $1.00 increase to both active & retiree dues which will become a pass through account to help fund the museum (the same way that $2 goes into the funeral fund pass through account).

Below is some policy information for our long time retirees. After the March 2018 Executive Board meeting, the full updated policy will be made available online at www.calfirelocal2881.org on the member's side:

0303 .01 .D   Retired Members (CAL FIRE Local 2881, IAFF and CPF Active Retired Members) (0 7-05) (03-14)

Fraternally,

SAC BEE, 2/12/2018

For the first time in years,  CalPERS is stable enough that it no longer expects to run deficits into the middle of the century.

Though still underfunded, the $345 billion pension fund has a better financial outlook because it's collecting more money from employers and making the most of  recent stock market gains, its chief investment officer said on Monday. That should help it avoid scenarios where it has to sell investment assets to pay pensions.

It's a milestone in the California Public Employees' Retirement System's recovery since it suffered severe losses in the recession that left it badly underfunded.   READ MORE
