CRITICAL FACILITY SOLAR+ EVALUATOR

The Critical Facility Solar+ Evaluator is a new NY Solar Map layer and interactive mapping tool developed by CUNY's Smart DG Hub that is designed to display critical facilities in NYC where installing resilient PV (solar+storage) would be beneficial. The user can toggle on and off the various layers to identify the location of safety, health or food facilities; flood zones; grid-constrained areas; and under-served areas.

SOLSMART WARWICK GOES GOLD
The Town of Warwick, with Sustainable CUNY's assistance, recently achieved SolSmart's highest designation - Gold! SolSmart is a U.S. Department of Energy-funded solar energy program for local governments that provides a nationally recognized designation to communities that take, or have taken, actions to reduce local barriers to solar energy. Warwick joined New York City as the only two gold designees in New York State -- an achievement celebrated in its local newspaper. If your community is interested in free assistance from the ombudsman team and federal recognition for smart solar policies, please email nysolar@cuny.edu
CUNY: LARGEST PV ARRAY IN MANHATTAN
Workers from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have installed 947 solar panels on the main roof of Borough of Manhattan Community College's (BMCC/CUNY) four-block-long building at 199 Chambers Street. The electricity produced powers the Chambers Street building first, with any excess generation distributed to the New York City power grid. BMCC is working collaboratively with regulators including the NYC Department of Buildings and Fire Department for permits to store solar power in two large 100-killowatt hour (kWh) batteries.

NYSERDA SEEKS PROGRAM COMMENTS
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is asking for comments on proposed revisions to its Megawatt (MW) Block incentive program for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. The proposed revisions were outlined at a NYSERDA C&I stakeholder meeting in Albany that was also broadcast as a webinar. Among other things, the revisions look to create incentive rates with more precision and greater synergies with VDER; accelerate performance-based incentives to lower financing costs; and encourage more C&I projects in New York City. Ideas include putting adders on incentives for parking canopies, affordable housing, landfills and brownfield sites in certain parts of the state.
Comments should be submitted to commercial.industrialpv@nyserda.ny.gov by January 12. NYSERDA will review the comments and present a revised proposal at the January 25th C&I stakeholder meeting.
