RMS families,

Happy New Year! We are excited to be with your student(s) today as we began the second semester! The new year brings a fresh start and a wonderful sense of positive possibilities. This edition of your monthly newsletter features a video showcasing the positive impact our programs and classes have on students, a featured club that has been started at RMS, enrollment and attendance update, 2nd quarter academic updates, and other important reminders and information. Have a wonderful beginning to 2018!

RMS Featured Club
 Tigers against bullying (TAB)

TAB members meet weekly with the goal to bring awareness to the importance of building a positive school culture by standing up to bullying.

 

TAB is completely student led and meets on a weekly basis.

 

TAB has contributed to the culture of RMS in the 2017-18 school year by:

  • Placing positive notes on students' lockers and staff doors. 
  • Inviting others to sit with members at lunch.
  • Performing random acts of kindness and writing kind anonymous notes to students.
All RMS students are invited to TAB meetings. During meetings students discuss what types of issues they see happening in the school and ways they can support their classmates.

TAB meets on Tuesdays 2:45-3:45 in Ms. Chambers' classroom. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 8th at 2:45.

The Republic Middle School Building School Improvement Plan (BSIP) is our process for setting goals and reporting student achievement in Attendance, Discipline, English Language Arts, and Math.

RMS attendance goal is 96%. We did not meet this goal, but RMS leadership is continuing to promote attendance incentives and encourage participation in daily and extra-curricular activities.

If your student plans to participate in any spring sport (track) or club/activity and has not already enrolled, he/she must do so during this enrollment window in order to participate.

Health Reminder: 
RMS Is a Latex Aware Campus! 

Parents/Guardians:

Please note that products containing latex are not allowed at RMS when school resumes session in August. Students in our school have latex allergies, some severe.  Because allergies can be so severe and life-threatening , we are asking for support of all Middle School staff and families in checking their child's belongings for latex before sending them to school.  We thank you in advance for your precaution and respect in helping us to keep our school safe for all. Most common products would  include balloons, rubber toys, adhesive tape, bandages and rubber/latex bracelets.
 
  1. Please be mindful as you are sending in items from home.  This includes supplies for classroom projects and special occasion decorations. We want to maintain a latex aware campus to keep our students safe.
  2. Teachers and staff will watch for items that may contain latex and remove them from the premises. This includes balloons, balls, rubber cement, toys from home, rubber bands and duct tape. If we cannot, with 100% certainty, verify that items are latex free we will error on the side of caution and remove them or ask the nurse immediately. If your student is bringing a questionable item from home please contact the school nurse to determine if it can safely be at school.
  3.  Please know that the PE and playground equipment the students are currently using has been properly treated. Please help us educate your child as the mere presence of this equipment may make them think their football from home is also safe.
  4. Again, thank you in advance for your caring and attention to this matter to keep our Middle School safe for all students. AVOIDANCE is the only way to keep our high risk students from having a medical emergency happen at school.
