"Food for Thought" by Pastor Randy
This Lenten season our church family is reading and discussing the book Being Disciples by Rowan Williams (Eerdmans, 2016). The book has six chapters which fits nicely with the six weeks of Lent. I am part of a small group that meets on Saturday morning. We had our first meeting on February 17.
We began by each sharing one impression we were left with from the first chapter. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of different "takeaways." It underscored for me the richness of this chapter.

World Day of Prayer will be held this year at First United Presbyterian Church in De Pere on
Friday, March 2. Every year Church Women United invite Christian women in a region or country to write the service. This year Suriname, in South America, had that privilege. It is a beautiful worship service and all women are invited to attend. Coffee fellowship at 9:30 a.m. followed by the service at 10:00 a.m.

Deacons Serve Dinner to Homeless at St. John's
Deacons are serving dinner at St. John's Homeless Shelter on
Saturday, March 3rd as well as
Saturday, April 7th. We'll need donations of vegetables, desserts, and more (or money to purchase items), as well as volunteers on each of those Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. to help cut up all the veggies and help make the stew, and volunteers to serve at the Shelter (be at First Pres by 4:30 p.m.) Questions, contact Kevin Kabacinski.

Women's Service Sunday
Sunday, March 4th is Women's Service Sunday. We value Meaningful Worship. On Celebrate the Gifts of Women Sunday, the theme is "Women Called to Lead with Love." During this service arranged by and with women, Shirley Schoffelman will be preaching, and the All Women's Choir will be performing, so don't miss this. Invite your friends to what will be a beautiful morning service!

2 for 2 at the U!
The Outreach Committee invites you to be part of 2 for 2 at the U, which will be held at Mauthe Center on Tuesday, March 6
. We will be serving the kids chili and cornmeal muffins
.
We need volunteers, as well as fruit and desserts. Please let Stephanie Fahringer know if you can help with either or both! The fruit and desserts should be brought to the work room by noon that Tuesday, and Stephanie will transport them.

Esther Circle Bible Study
Ann Argall will be our hostess, and Marti La Chapelle will co-host, when the Esther Circle meets on
Thursday, March 8
at 1:00 p.m.
We will study lesson 7.
On
Thursday, April 12
we will again meet at 1:00 p.m. and Roberta Brand will be our hostess. We will study lesson 8. All women are welcome to any of our meetings.

Church Chix will meet at The Blue Opus at 1390 Bellevue Street on
Tuesday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m.

|
For March, the Pantry volunteers are requesting donations of chicken noodle soup/tomato soup and for April, macaroni & cheese. You can place them in the shopping cart in the narthex at your convenience.
As always, they can certainly use monetary donations as well! Thank you.

Palm Porkie Pancake Breakfast
The Montana Mission Trip group (pictured, with the exception of George Hubbard), along with the Fellowship Committee, will be hosting a "Palm Porkie Pancake Breakfast", on Palm
Sunday, March 25, after worship. All the money raised will go toward the trip. (This replaces our Easter breakfast, FYI.)
If you have a youth going on the Montana trip this is one of the fundraising opportunities!! If your youth isn't going to Montana, we could still use their help!! They will be asked to be at church by 9:15 am that Sunday and will have to stay until about noon. They will be cooking, serving and doing dishes.

One Great Hour of Sharing
First Pres will again have an offering on Easter Sunday for One Great Hour of Sharing. A gift to One Great Hour of Sharing enables PC(USA) to share God's love with our neighbors-in-need around the world by providing relief to those affected by natural disasters, providing food to the hungry, and helping to empower the poor and oppressed.

Lenten Study
We are in the Season of Lent, a time of renewal, and t
his Lenten season our congregation has been invited to read and discuss the book "Being Disciples: Essentials of the Christian Life," by Rowan Williams. We value Active Faith, and you are encouraged to attend one of the study groups on Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday (details in full article.) If you are not part of a group, you can always follow Pastor Randy's blog. There are still a few copies of the book available - contact the office by phone (920) 437-8121 or email.

Lord's Table Training will be taking place for youngsters on Saturday, April 7th in the morning. The next day, Sunday, April 8th, the children will join the rest of the congregation in Celebrating the Sacrament together.

The C.E. Committee asks the congregation to pray for the confirmation group as they work on their faith statements. Blessings on you, Zach, Sophia, Sara, Nick, Morgan, Katie, Hannah, Hailey, Evan, Ellie, DJ, and Aaron!

Both youth and adults from both First Pres and First United Presbyterian in De Pere had a great time on the recent ski trip. One comment heard was "It was great weather, and so nice to be able to spend time with members of our sister church and get to know them!" (That's Eric Sperduto behind those great shades - check out the rest of the ski trip photos we have to date on our Facebook page.)

2018 Souper Bowl Queen
Congratulations to our newly crowned soup queen Patti Mancheski (pictured here with last year's queen Patty Kabacinski - they are sisters-in-law). Patti M. won with her yummy Chicken Noodle soup.
We also offer congratulations and appreciation to
Ann Argall, Loni McCormick, Leah Mott, and Karen Walker (2 entries!), who also provided most delicious soups! All of the recipes people were willing to share will be posted on our website as we receive them, and
can be accessed here.
Voting on - and the soups themselves - raised
$470 for the Presbyterian Pantry! That's something we can all take great pride in!

RideShare Opportunities
RideShare is available if you or someone you know needs a ride to or from church service on Sundays (including coffee fellowship.) Please let one of the Deacons know or call the office! We value Strong Relationships. We would love to have you here and we will make arrangements. That said, if anyone is willing/able to pick up and bring back one or more of our members who need a ride to church on Sundays, we would also welcome you! Again, please let the Deacons know. Thank you.

A Greener Approach to Giving
Electronic giving in all its forms provides convenience for frequent check writers and donation consistency for churches.
Online giving also has a positive impact on the environment. An enormous amount of natural resources are consumed in the production, transportation, processing, and disposal of paper checks. That's why paying bills electronically always ranks high on any list of actions an individual can take to improve the environment. Electronic payments have already produced more than a 50% decline in check use since the year 2000.
