The Tyree Institute presents a panel discussion with distinguished professionals from three selective admissions universities - DePaul University, University of Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin - Madison - to explore:
- Who gets in through the selective admissions process, and why
- What's new in admission data and trends
- Strategies and tips for applying to college
Panelists:
JON BOECKENSTEDT
Jon has been with DePaul, the largest private university in the Midwest, since 2002. He is responsible for all processes that recruit, admit, and enroll over 5,000 new undergraduates each year. He also serves as the liaison between DePaul's Enrollment Management Division and the offices of Information Technology and Legal Affairs.
He is the author of two popular blogs focused on college admissions, financial aid, and higher education data, and recently wrote a chapter on the place of Admissions in the Academy in the book "Contemporary Colleges and Universities: A Reader" edited by Joseph L. DeVitis.
He brings over 30 years of experience in higher education, all spent in admissions and enrollment management. His interests include the intersection of corporate and higher education management issues, as well as institutional strategy; he was among the first in the nation to present on the application of brand to higher education, in 1993.
Jon has worked at Mount Mercy and Grinnell Colleges in Iowa, the University of Dallas in Texas, Communicorp (a marketing consulting firm working with not-for-profits) in Atlanta, and St. Bonaventure University in New York, where he spent seven years as dean and then vice president of Enrollment Management. He earned his bachelor of arts in English Literature from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and his master's degree in management and marketing from the University of Maryland University College.

JAMES G. NONDORF
Jim is the Vice President for Enrollment and Student Advancement and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at the University of Chicago. At UChicago, Jim oversees College Admissions, Graduate Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Office of Career Advancement. He has also served as chair of the SAT Committee and been an adviser for the College Board. Prior to his tenure at UChicago, he served as Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Director of Student Outreach and Associate Director of Admissions at Yale University.
Jim earned a BA in economics from Yale University and an MLA in ethics from Valparaiso University.

ANDR
É E. PHILLIPS
André has over 35 years of experience in the admissions profession and is currently the Director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at UW-Madison since 2011, Phillips first served as the Senior Associate Director and, from August 2016 - May 2017, as its Interim Director, before his permanent appointment eight months ago. He held previous leadership appointments at the University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Mr. Phillips serves as the chief designer of local, national, and international recruitment strategy at UW-Madison. He oversees 65 full-time team members who recruit, evaluate, process, and admit the enrolling class each year. He leads efforts for working collaboratively with campus partners as well as local community service organizations and alumni on new initiatives to attract high quality students.
Originally from Chicago, Phillips received his bachelor's degree in social work from the Loyola University of Chicago. He also attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.
