Faculty member Bev Feldkamp passed away on Dec. 22.

Memorial Services for Miss Feldkamp
We began our day this morning with a time of prayer, singing, and scripture in memory of Miss Feldkamp. As Pastor Mueller explained, it is common for Christian families to privately encourage each other with words from scripture prior to the public funeral and that is what we did this morning.  Additional counselors were available to students throughout the morning.

Miss Feldkamp's formal memorial service is on Saturday, Jan. 6, beginning at 11am in our gym. The doors open at 10am. We expect to exceed the capacity of our parking lot, so please make plans to share rides. Saginaw Township has generously offered to plow the soccer complex parking lot and we are making arrangements for buses to shuttle people between the school and that parking lot.

Typically our teachers and students help direct parking for big events. This time it is important that they be able to attend the memorial in its entirety. Please contact Mr. Vincent ( [email protected]) if you can help direct parking on Saturday from 9-11am.
Devotion
Remember
Has your life settled down in this New Year? December sure was a busy time for our family. Christmas concerts, extra church services, gift buying, and family gatherings, along with the regular activities of a busy family, created a chaos that made me feel there was no control over my life.

As 2017 is history and we begin to write the history of 2018, I am reminded that God is control and the history that is being written is HIS story. Isaiah 46:9-11: says, " Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done ... Indeed, I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass.

I am constantly reminded that God is in charge of our lives, leading and guiding us. He exhorts us to remember His promises and to live lives that honor and glorify Him. If we do not remember, we become proud, selfish, sinful human beings that only focus on our wants and needs. When this happens we miss being a part of HIS story. Taking part in His will produces a life of endless blessings and peace. Life still may be crazy, but there is sense of God being in control of our lives. I look forward to 2018 with a sense of excitement and anticipation. Where will God lead me this year? I know that there will be challenges ahead, but He is in control of my life. God has blessed us with purpose and the incredible opportunity to be a part of writing His story. So when 2018 gets crazy and out of control, remember God's promises that he will neither leave us or forsake us and He wants us to be a part of the greatest story in the history of the world. Remember. A blessed New Year to all of you

Grandparents/Special Friends Day Coming in February
Grandparents and Special Friends love to visit Valley Lutheran, and our students love to share with them first hand what makes Valley so special. This year, each Thursday in February has been set aside to do just that, with each class encouraged to bring guests, starting at 9am, on the following dates:
  • Seniors - Feb. 1
  • Juniors - Feb. 8
  • Sophomores - Feb. 15
  • Freshmen - Feb. 22
Special guests will take a tour of the the school, sit in on a class with their student host, attend chapel, and, if they'd like, stay for lunch. For more information, call 989-790-1676.
Emergency School Closing Procedure
Now that winter has arrived, school closings are always a possibility. Since our students live in many communities, there are times when travel might be difficult close to home, yet easier in other areas. Your child's safety is our primary concern, and we respect your decision to keep them home or send them to school later, if conditions make travel difficult. In addition to the regular cancellation announcements on TV and radio, you can visit  our website for information, especially concerning extracurricular activities.

Emergency school closings due to weather and other factors will be announced on radio stations WSGW (790 AM), WTCF (100.5 FM), and  WNEM (Channel 5). Valley Lutheran will be announced separately and independently of any other schools or districts. You can also register your cell phone, email, or both at   remind.com/join/vlhs1718 to receive notifications.
Church Extension Fund Offers High Yield Fixed Bonds

The minimum investment is $100 and the maximum is $1000. The offer is limited to one account per Lutheran student. For more info, contact CEF at 800-242-3944.

TALKING WITH KIDS ABOUT GRIEF
We know that seasons of grief are a natural part of life, but sometimes it can be difficult to know how to help your child work through these complex emotions. This great article from Focus on the Family gives parents great tips on helping your child wade through the complexities of their grief. If you ever need a helping hand through tough times, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Mueller at [email protected].

AXIS.ORG PARENT GUIDES
Talking about issues like smartphones, eating disorders, Snapchat, video games, and sexting with teens can be scary and complicated. But it doesn't have to be! Axis.org has created these guides to help you understand the things your teens face, how to have conversations about them, and how to biblically disciple your teens into lifelong faith through it all.

SPRING SEMESTER SCHEDULES
Spring semester schedules will be handed out to students on Tuesday, Jan. 16, before school. Students wanting to change their course selections or explore schedule change options should meet with Mrs. Mueller in the next two weeks.

7TH SEMESTER or MID-YEAR TRANSCRIPTS
Transcripts that include your student's first semester of their senior year will be available once grades are released. Some colleges request these as an update on their applicants. VLHS uses a program called Parchment to send documents electronically and securely directly from the school. Please submit all document requests through Parchment. To indicate that you want 7th semester documents sent, please select "Hold for Grades."
