When I look back on the year that has passed, I'm amazed, encouraged, and inspired by all of Hospice of Santa Barbara's staff and stakeholders who've committed themselves to helping families dealing with loss and serious illnesses.
As we move forward into 2018, it is truly a joy to think about all the opportunities ahead we have to build relationships and bring light into the lives of those going through the most difficult of times.
And as we continue to heal from the impact of the devastating Thomas Fire, I'm touched to see how this commitment to compassion continues to echo throughout our community.
First and foremost, I'm thankful for the first responders and firefighters who've spent countless hours battling the flames. I'm also heartened by the many selfless individuals in our beautiful city who've donated their time and resources to help those impacted by this disaster. My heart is always full when I see a spirit of generosity shining through all the wonderful people in our community.
Thanks to our unwavering supporters, our staff and volunteers are able to continue addressing the needs of those in our community, as well as bring some joy into their lives.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year.

"Shift," a Poem by Susan Cochran
|
|
Susan became familiar with Hospice of Santa Barbara when her husband of thirty years died suddenly from a heart attack on July 4, 2010. She participated in the Widows and Widowers' Group, Healing through Poetry Group and the Year to Live Workshop and various events and workshops.
that chronicles her challenges and successes. She takes the reader through the first
shock of
an unprepared heart full of grief to learning to live fully with an open heart
filled with acceptance and loving memories.
Her poetry has been used to
help those healing
from loss.
