SPANISH STUDENTS GIVE PRESENTATIONS
Señor Welsher's 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and Señora Reyes's 3rd, 5th and 7th grade students have been working on a month long project about a famous Hispanic person. The students chose and researched one Hispanic person who has entertained or impacted history. The students' task was to research highlights of the person's career and life, create a poster board or powerpoint, and present their project in only Spanish. The students have done a great job! World Compass Academy's World Language Department is flourishing.

ADMIN LETTER
Dear WCA Families,
We are excited to bring another element of Rachel's Challenge to WCA at the end of this month.
The Power of One Assembly will be on
January 31.
Please note that this will NOT be a Formal Uniform Day. Instead, it will be a
Spirit Wear Day as originally planned to support the PTO Spirit Night at Tokyo Joe's that evening.
The Power of One is a series of skits presented by actors who use boxes, colours, and masks to vividly portray what bullying is, what can be done about it, and how every child has the power of one, the power to report and deal with bullying when they see it. The Power of One:
-
Shows vivid examples of different types of bullying: Physical, Verbal, Exclusion, and Cyber bullying
The set for the Power of One consists of a series of boxes that fit inside each other like a Russian egg. Each box is a different color: green, purple, yellow, and white, representing the different roles in the bullying process.
Following the color scheme of the boxes, the actors put on a green mask when they play the Bully, a purple mask when they play the Target, and a yellow mask for the Bystander. The highlight of the performance occurs when a volunteer from the audience looks into the Power of One box (which contains a mirror) and sees himself/herself!
The audience then takes the Power of One anti-bullying oath:
I will not bully others.
I will not stand by while others are bullied.
I will report and deal with bullying whenever I see it...
...because I have
the POWER OF ONE!
We invite parents to attend this assembly. The middle school assembly (5th - 7th grade) will be from 8:45am - 9:30am. The elementary assembly (K - 4th grade) will be from 9:35am - 10:30am.
Sincerely,
WCA Admin Team

PARKING LOT SAFETY
As construction continues, the school parking lot and carpool will be impacted. Please be aware of construction vehicles/equipment that may be present, especially during drop-off and pick-up.
Don't forget that once you are through the Crossing Guard Stop Sign, there is still another stop sign before you turn left onto Perry Street. This intersection can back up, so please make sure that you are watching the vehicle in front of you.
There has been an increase in students being dropped off and walking into the building without an adult. This poses a safety risk to our students. Please remember that all students must be dropped off at the doors either in the front or back of the school building. When using the cross walks, please make sure your students are with you and that they are aware of the cars around them.
If you are running a little late and arrive at 8:05am or after, your child will need to be signed in at the front desk. Thanks for your cooperation!
We appreciate all you do in keeping our kids safe!
