In recent meetings of the Men's Group, participants have requested more information on grief and loss. This is not surprising, given that various forms of emotional distress impacting men across the lifespan are not commonly talked about and, what's more, are less frequently addressed in the scientific literature than loss affecting women. As it turns out, men are socialized to experience and resolve loss in particular ways that ultimately challenge the very capacity to process and resolve experiences of abandonment, rejection, and grief. In the next meeting of the Men's Group
I will present an overview of the psychological and emotional dynamics of grief and loss among men, with particular attention paid to the notion of "implosion" and its relevance to male psychology.
