Female Students and Faculty Challenge Gender Stereotypes in Male-Dominated Majors
In a USD computer science classroom full of men, one female student is not afraid to leave her seat, approach the whiteboard and scribble her thoughts over it to find a solution to the lab at hand.
Senior Alexis Layne, a computer science major, is breaking down gender stereotypes in her male-dominated major by working with other women outside of the classroom and proving herself through her skills in the classroom, she said,

A Sisterhood of Entrepreneurship
Andie Hines - I'm a business owner. I'm a single mom. I'm also about 30 other roles in the span of any given week. In short, I'm a professional plate spinner, and I have been lucky to meet hundreds of other women who feel the same way. We aren't necessarily a “new” variety of business professional, but we're a group that is growing as more female entrepreneurs discover the freedom and satisfaction of ownership.

Female Mobile Game Designers Are Changing The Industry For Women & The Evidence Is In Your Smartphone
If you're wondering what they do day-to-day, experience and game design don't involve as much fiddling with code as you might think — or, indeed any at all. David explains, "Experience design is kind of a new career path — it's kind of why I stumbled upon it. We create the user flows for products and make everything feel intuitive so that when a player comes into your app, it feels very seamless. The other part of it is designing the visuals for it."

NASA Removes Le Moyne Grad from Space Shuttle Flight
Jeanette J. Epps was removed from the flight crew for unspecified reasons, with NASA stating that she is still eligible for future endeavors into space. She had already begun training for Expeditions 56-57, but will soon be returning to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Had she not been removed, she would have become the first African-American person to live on the ISS.
These removals are not uncommon at NASA, where last minute changes and corrections are a constant.
However, NASA has been silent regarding the reason for Epps’ removal.

Mentoring Monday, the Perfect Opportunity to Find a Local Mentor
Tricia Schwennesen  - As we get closer to this year's Bizwomen Mentoring Monday, I’ve been thinking a lot about mentorship. San Antonio Business Journal Publisher  Jimmy Holmes  tapped me to be one of 40 mentors for the event on Feb. 12 at The DoSeum. We’re one of 43 publications across the country participating in this speed-dating-style coaching event, meaning that roughly 10,000 women across the country from Albany, New York, to Hawaii will have an opportunity to be mentored.

In a recent Gallup study, only 11 percent of corporate executives perceived that college graduates had the skills they were looking for. How can we better prepare the next generation for the jobs of tomorrow?
In her new book, Teach to Work: How a Mentor, a Mentee and a Project Can Close the Skills Gap in America (Taylor and Francis: March 28, 2017) mentoring expert Patty empowers professionals – whether they are bankers, lawyers, architects, accountants, engineers, IT specialists or artists – to bring their real-world experience and her project based mentoring model into the classroom.
Compelling and insightful, the book reveals how professionals can embark on a journey to transform lives, mentoring one student at a time.
“You have made a difference in the lives of these kids, and most likely you have made a difference in the lives of their kids as well. They have grabbed hold of your light, because they feel your encouragement and kindness, and maybe because they had no other. Thank you for your important leadership in this role.”
