COURSE DETAILS:

The CDS course is not intended to be a health and safety course, nor will it cover all potential hazards that may be encountered on commercial projects.  Accordingly, it is required of participants to comply with all applicable local, state/provincial and national safety rules and regulations.

Commercial drying projects frequently have many more potential hazards and safety risks that are not generally encountered on residential projects.  These hazards may include but not be limited to higher voltages, confined spaces, energized machinery, hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment and forklifts.

The Commercial Drying Specialist course teaches damage inspection and evaluation, work flow management, process administration and technical methods of effective and timely drying of commercial, industrial, institutional and complex residential water-damaged structures, systems, furniture, and fixtures and equipment (FFE).

Resources for this course include: the current ANSI/IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration, reference media, scientific, technical and industry resources. (4.5 day course; 32 hours, not including exam time, lunch and breaks)

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  • Equipment sizing rationale that takes into account many variables typical of commercial projects (e.g. building size, type construction, degree of saturation, weather impact, power availability).
  • Many ways a commercial building cannot be approached like “just a big house”!
  • Why and how to inspect construction of hardwood sport floors to determine ahead of time whether your drying will be successful.
  • Identifying hazards and risks you might find on commercial projects, that you may never see on residential projects.
  • How to manage numerous interested parties (aka stakeholders) that are typical on large commercial losses.
  • A tool to help ensure you capture all information and job data during your first visit to the damage site.
  • Reading construction blueprints and discovering details that may keep you from a disastrous result.
  • Peculiarities of working in historical buildings.
  • Importance of understanding psychrometrics and moisture movement in materials….and how a simple understanding of energy will make the whole thing easier.
  • Various equipment technologies (e.g. refrigerant, desiccant, heat, and generators) and when and how to use them on commercial projects.
