UPDATE: FREEZING TEMPERATURES IMPACT CONOCOCHEAGUE CREEK
Ice buildup conditions

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (January 15, 2018) - The Washington County Board of County Commissioners and the Division of Emergency Services (DES) would like to provide an update regarding the conditions in Williamsport along the Conococheague Creek.

County staff, along with fire and rescue companies from across the county, continue to be proactive, conducting assessments of all major tributaries and known areas prone to flooding. Antietam Creek, Potomac River and other waterways known for flooding appear to be free of concern at this time.

DES and public safety officials continue to monitor the ice buildup along Conococheague Creek in Washington County. The area of Kemps Mill Road and Snug Harbor Campground, specifically, are being monitored.

At this time, we are maintaining situational awareness. Should additional information become available or significant changes occur, we will update the  Washington County  and  Emergency Services  website and social media sites.

Citizens are advised to refrain from driving through ice or standing water. Encroaching or walking upon ice-covered bodies of water is also discouraged.

Those living within the affected area in need of assistance or requiring further information are asked to call the Emergency Operations Center at (240) 313-4377.

For media interested in more information, contact Public Relations and Marketing Director Danielle Crabb at 240-313-2384.
