Budget Presentation Come to the adult forum after the 10am service and hear about the 2018 budget! Robin Atkinson of the Finance Committee will be presenting details of how the church did for 2017 as well as our challenges for 2018. Come, learn, and ask questions about the finances of the church.

The Good Book Club: Reading Luke in Lent The Rector will be hosting a weekly weekday Bible study on Wednesdays, 11:30 - 12:30pm in the library starting 2/21/18. To sign up or for more info, contact Emily: [email protected].
Jim Kennedy will be hosting a weekly evening Bible study on Thursdays at 7:00 pm starting 2/15/18.
Contact Jim at: [email protected]. Simple dinner of soup and bread at 6:15pm before the group.
The office will be closed Monday, February 19th for President's Day.

For Your Information
The Episcopal Relief and Development Lenten Devotions booklets are here. The focus this year is on children. The daily meditations contain poignant and joyous recollections and reflections prepared by educators, caregivers, parents and grandparents. Copies are at the back of the Church, or sign up on the ERD website (EpiscopalRelief.org) for daily email meditations.
Sunday, February 25th Annual Meeting of Christ Episcopal Church will take place Sunday, February 25th directly following the 10am service. Please come to elect your leaders, hear the stories of our ministry, honor our staff and enjoy a potluck lunch in the undercroft following the meeting.

Women's Group Our first meeting of the Women's Fellowship in many months will be during the annual meeting brunch on February 25, 2018. We will "reserve" a table to sit together and discuss our April service project and upcoming activities. The Prime Timers will meet in the church undercroft on Thursday, March 1st from 11:30-1:30 for social time, lunch and to enjoy a speaker. The cost of the lunch is $10.00. Samaritan Ministry Breakfast Samaritan Ministry's annual Next Step Breakfast will be held at the National Press Club, Washington DC on Thursday, March 15 - 7:30 to 9:00 AM.. Vestry Candidate: At Large
Dwight Allen
Dwight and his wife Joan are enthusiastic members of Christ Church who treasure the open and genuine welcome they find in this congregation. Dwight is working with the Communications Committee on updating the church website and enjoys participating in the Sunday afternoon Bible study. For the children's Sunday school he leads songs and tells Bible stories he illustrates with cartoon drawings. Dwight has been a worship leader and band member at two churches in the D.C. area.
Professionally Dwight is a retired Deloitte management consultant, with experience doing strategy projects for corporate and government clients. He holds degrees from Ohio State and Harvard Law. His calling is to help the vestry as it deepens and refreshes the congregation's ministry so that many more people can share in the rich blessings of worship and fellowship at Christ Church.

Cynthia Mitchell
My name is Cynthia Mitchell, my husband, Louis, and I returned to the Washington metropolitan area in August 2015. While I was born & raised in Washington DC, we had become New Englanders living in Stamford, CT for over 30 years.
After visiting several churches, I began worshipping at Christ Episcopal Church in December 2015. I have belonged to only two other churches, St. George's in Washington DC where I was baptized, confirmed and attended with my family until college. And St. Francis Episcopal Church in Stamford, CT, an open, progressive, inclusive congregation where I learned for the first time as an adult the joy and comfort that comes from belonging to a warm and welcoming church community. I am pleased to say that I feel that warmth from my new church family here at Christ Episcopal Church.
Also, I have discovered how much more rewarding the church experience is when one is involved. As such, I recently joined the Outreach committee where I have a chance to participate more fully in helping those in our community who face significant challenges in daily life. I am a Lector at the 8 am service where I find that reading the lessons enriches my understanding. And now I look forward to serving as a member of the Vestry. My commitment is to use my talents to further Christ Episcopal Church in its mission to "be a faithful presence in the world by example and service to others". I will actively participate and prayerfully make decisions to strengthen the parish.

Vestry Candidate: Parish Life
Jane Aylor
I was born and raised in the Washington, DC area and attended local Maryland schools-Winston Churchill High School and the University of Maryland. Although I was baptized an Episcopalian, I never found a church where I felt truly at home until my husband Jim and I joined Christ Church in 1994 and were married here by Father Hague a few months later. From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt welcome and, although our residence was (and still is) in Falls Church, Virginia, we were so committed to CCPK that we never considered attending a church in Virginia. We both served as ushers and Jim was a member of the Vestry Finance Committee.
When Jim passed away in 2013, the church became even more important to me. I was so grateful for the support I received from the church family and my retirement in 2015 from a demanding job at ABC News enabled me to become more involved in church activities. I became a chalicist and volunteered for Parish Life events.
Parish Life plays an important role in the life of the congregation. Beyond facilitating "food, fellowship and fun", Parish Life provides opportunities for parishioners to volunteer and participate which lead to the development of strong relationships and commitment within the church. I would be honored to continue the work of the Parish Life Vestry members--Ginny Hussong, Pam Prindle and Gail Marks--with whom I've enjoyed working over the past few years.

Candidate for Diocesan Delegate
Kathy McKay
It would be an honor to serve as one of Christ Church's delegates to the Diocesan Convention.
I was baptized at St. Alban's and since then I've been a member of many parishes in the Diocese, including St. Stephens and the Incarnation, St. James (Potomac), Christ Church Rockville, and St. John's Norwood, but Christ Church Kensington has been my parish home for 20 years. I'm usually at church with my husband, Tom. Our son Norman is in grad school and our son Tim is in college.
I'm currently on the Altar Guild's First Sunday group, but I've also served as the wedding coordinator, a Youth Group leader, and as a Sunday School teacher.
My 9-to-5 job is with the Federal Government. Prior to joining the Government, I wrote for a variety of publishers and publications, including Cathedral Age.
I'm passionate about social justice, the art of creating, local sights, and listening.

Candidate for Alternate Diocesan Delegate
Doug Leavens
I joined Christ Episcopal Church Kensington in 1992 when my family moved to Kensington from New Jersey. For over 20 years I was an international banker, lending to the rich as it were, and lived overseas in Europe and West Africa. It was time for a change. I landed a position in international development financing. Now I was lending to the "poor" to promote jobs and economic growth. I needed a spiritual home to anchor this new perspective. Raised Episcopalian, a choirboy, and years later, a vestry member in our NJ church, I felt at home when I came to Christ Church. Over the years, I have served on the vestry, worked on our Wing-and-a Prayer capital campaign to build our education wing, co-led the first Young Adults in Church (YAC) group of high school juniors and seniors, and was part of the planning and logistics team for our mission trip to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Now I joyfully sing in our choir. The common thread was how unified and powerful we are as a congregation. After completing a course at Georgetown University in Organization Development, I consulted with the Episcopal Diocese of Washington supporting the director of the youth programs build an outreach strategy. I learned first-hand how the dioceses functions. I would be honored to delve deeper into diocesan operations, finances and programs as a delegate from our wonderful parish.
