Jabil to Build its New Worldwide Headquarters in St. Petersburg

Jabil, #152 on the Fortune 500 list, announced on February 5, 2018 its intention to construct its new worldwide headquarters in St. Petersburg. "Jabil has been committed to St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay Area for 30 years," said Jabil CEO Mark Mondello.  "The new campus will bring our local employees together on a single, safe, modern, environmentally friendly campus." 

Jabil plans to repurpose the former Tampa Bay Research Institute (TBRI) property into a 40,000 sq. ft. world-class lab facility.  Additionally, the company will build a new corporate headquarters and renovate its existing headquarter building.  Jabil has approximately 2,000 employees in St. Petersburg and about 180,000 world-wide.  The City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Enterprise Florida and the EDC facilitated the development.  


Mayor Kriseman Recognized for Small Business Advocacy

On February 14th, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman received the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Partner America 2018 "Small Business Advocate Award" for his outstanding support and efforts in the small business community.  "We are honored to receive this award but more importantly to have so many successful entrepreneurs launching and growing small business in St. Petersburg.  They are an essential part of our local economy and represent so much of the flavor and flair of what it means to experience St. Pete," said Mayor Kriseman.

Their creative culture, passion for design and all-around cool personality fit perfectly with St. Pete's growing entrepreneurial vibe...and a huge reason why the city's Creative Arts and Design sector is growing so fast.

New Pier Construction Progress

Aerial Innovations         

To date, over 68% of the pilings have been placed, 20,000 square feet of the deck has been poured, and work has begun on the tilted lawn and new bulkhead areas around Spa Beach. Five cranes continue working six days a week, with additional piles being placed, and the pier deck paving is extended and widened. The South bridge is nearly complete and is now connected to land. At the end of the bridge, the base of the Event Plaza and Coastal Thicket has started. 


State of the St. Petersburg Economy Presentation

If you missed the State of the St. Petersburg Economy event on January 30th, the full presentation is available on-demand!  Not only was St. Petersburg's growth and stability evaluated through key economic indicators, but also, City Development Administrator, Alan DeLisle,  discusses a list of possible development sites. These include the Carillon Town Center in the Gateway business district, the existing police station, once the new one is completed, Tropicana Field's massive 86 acres, and the Skyway Marina District in the city's south side, an area DeLisle said he expects to explode in the coming years.


St. Pete Recognized as a Top Boomtown of 2017

SmartAsset.com recently published their list of ten top boomtowns of 2017, and while Florida cities are dominating the list this year, St. Petersburg takes the #5 spot.  " From 2015 to 2016, St. Petersburg saw a large influx of residents. According to our data, new people coming to the area outnumbered the people leaving by about 1.9% of the total population."
