February 2018

ACHD members are leading a transformation of our association to meet the unique needs of Health Care Districts in today's challenging health care environment.

Our "Membership Drives Change" newsletter highlights the services and support ACHD offers that empower Districts to drive change in their communities.

Member Engagement Matters
  • ACHD's Finance Committee met to review the Association's quarterly financial statements and investment reports. The Committee also reviewed the development plan of the 2018-19 budget.
  • ACHD's Board of Directors appointed Linda Wagner, CEO of Seneca Healthcare District, to the Board of Directors. During their quarterly meeting, the Board received committee reports from all ACHD Committees and the work they have done to date.
  • The Certified Healthcare District Program is now in its 4th year!  This is  a great time for Districts to demonstrate their commitment to exemplary compliance in meeting the health and governance needs of the communities Districts represent. • Earlier this month, ACHD published our Member Value Statement.  ACHD delivers expert training and educational opportunities for its members and advocating for legislation and regulatory policies that allow Healthcare Districts to deliver the best possible health services to Californians.  To learn more about the value of your membership, click here.
  • ACHD hosted their monthly webinar series, Board Clerk Training, featuring Jim Mitrisin, Clerk of El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, and Florence Evans, Clerk of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.  This webinar provided an overview of key components of the Brown Act, the Public Records Act, and discussed best strategies for board clerks.  If you missed this webinar and would like to access a recording, please click here. ACHD will host the next installment of our Webinar Education Series on March 22, at 11:00 am focusing on Best Practices in Grant Policies.  To learn more about this event, click here.

Leadership Academy
ACHD's Leadership Academy was  a huge success! Taking place on February 8-9 in Sacramento, the Leadership Academy provided newly elected and returning District Trustees, CEOs, District Staff and Board Clerks with the tools necessary to improve governance effectiveness, sharpen organizational intelligence and be successful leaders in their Healthcare Districts. Our event also featured best practice sharing from Healthcare Districts - our Bright Spots Breakfast featured speakers from Mayers Memorial Hospital, Fallbrook Regional Health District, Morongo Basin Healthcare District and Grossmont Healthcare District. Each Bright Spot presented innovation in action, specifically highlighting initiatives the District took to enhance projects, programs and the health of their community. Thank you to everyone that attended our Leadership Academy! For more information about future Educational Events, please contact Sheila Johnston .

Advocacy in  Action
The 2018 Legislative Session is beginning to heat up, with the first major deadline of the year, the bill introduction deadline, passing on February 16th. ACHD's Advocacy Team is hard at work reviewing hundreds of bills introduced that may impact Healthcare Districts this year. Get up to date on legislation ACHD is engaged in and get Involved in Advocacy by attending our   2018 Legislative Day, Beyond the Conversation: Taking Action, happening on April 16-17 in Sacramento.

*Please note: Amber King, Vice President, Government Affairs, will be on maternity leave in early March, for several months. In her absence please contact Annie Hohn, Administrative Associate, Advocacy or Sheila Johnston, Vice President, Member Relations & Administration.

Healthcare District Engagement Tour has reached 6,935 miles traveled!
Amber King, Vice President, Government Affairs and Sheila Johnston, Vice President, Member Relations & Administration and Ken Cohen, CEO, visited El Camino Hospital this month. During our visit, the ACHD Team met with Dan Woods, CEO and Brenda Taussig, Director of Government Relations of El Camino Hospital, and discussed the advocacy services the Association provides. We also discussed legislative issues of most importance to the District.

Our road trip to California's Healthcare Districts has been a great opportunity for the ACHD team to see our Districts in action and meet key players in advancing community health.  We will continue visiting Districts over the next few months; remember to follow our road trip on Twitter and Facebook.
The Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) represents Healthcare Districts throughout the state's urban, suburban and rural areas. California is home to 79 Healthcare Districts that play a profound role in responding to the specialized health needs of local communities by providing access to essential health services to tens of millions of Californians while also having direct accountability to the communities that Districts serve. In many areas, Healthcare Districts are the sole source of health, medical and well-being services in their communities.
