Congratulations Graduates!

The Technology Transfer Program is proud to announce the graduation of 165 Roads Scholars and 144 Road Masters. They join the 2,867 Roads Scholars and 2,179 Road Masters who have already completed the program.
These dedicated men and women attended classes covering a variety of topics including drainage, low-cost roadway safety improvements, and leadership skills. Roads Scholar graduates attended 54 hours of training and Road Masters attended an additional 42 hours.
Graduations were held in December at Rough River Dam State Resort Park and Embassy Suites in Lexington.

Call for Ideas

The Federal Highway Administration is seeking information from State, local, and industry partners and the public on proven processes or technologies that have the potential to provide efficiencies. Specifically, the FHWA is interested in innovations and in processes, which have the potential to transform the way the highway transportation community does business by enhancing roadway safety, shortening project delivery time, reducing traffic congestion, and/or improving environmental sustainability. The information may assist FHWA identify proven, market-ready innovations for potential deployment through the fifth round of EDC (EDC-5) in 2019-2020.

MUTCD Update:
Optional Use of Rectangular Rapid
Flashing Beacons
|
On December 21, 2017, the FHWA
terminated Interim Approval 11
, which permitted the optional use of rectangular rapid flashing beacons. All highway agencies, including those agencies that previously received the FHWA's approval to use rectangular rapid flashing beacons under Interim Approval 11, are prohibited from installing any new rectangular rapid flashing beacons. However, any existing rectangular rapid flashing beacons that are already installed may remain in place until they reach the end of their useful service life.

Open Utility Cut Pavement Restoration Survey
Local Public Agencies face the challenge of repairing their pavements after the installation or repair of subsurface utilities in the roadway. While minimizing the need to disturb the in-service pavements through advanced planning and coordination with other planned roadway work is ideal, open utility cuts are often unavoidable. The purpose of the survey is to collect information about pavement restoration of open cut utility installation or repair from practitioners in urban areas with similar climatic conditions as northern Ohio. The survey, sponsored by Ohio Research Initiative for Locals at Ohio University, will take approximately 30 minutes.

Climate Adaptation Training Needs and Opportunities
Many transportation agencies are exploring climate/extreme weather adaptation measures to enhance the resilience of the transportation system. The University of Vermont is conducting a study to identify core competencies and career pathways for climate adaptation professionals in the transportation sector. This brief, 10 question, survey is intended to identify adaptation-related professional development and training needs and opportunities at DOTs and other transportation agencies.
