Service---St. Katherine Drexel---Volunteer Week B

Hello St. Isidore families,
I want to invite you to think about what service means to you. This month, our school spotlights the Gospel value of SERVICE. At its root, service involves modeling Jesus and his compassion for others. I observe acts of service throughout our
St. Isidore community each day. I see it in parents choosing to give their time to help in classrooms, students helping injured friends, and teachers offering extra support. Our seventh- and eighth-grade students have the opportunity to attend Loaves and Fishes, a soup kitchen operated by the parish and run by Martha Stokowski. Students prepare and serve homemade meals to the homeless in Martinez. We continue our efforts to raise funds and food for families in need through our Scrip program and other collections. In these good deeds, I am reminded of how much good there is in the world when you choose to look for it.
The auction is in full swing, and we need your help. We still need items for our online, silent, and live auctions. Items such as gift certificates, merchandise, trips, vacation homes, and cash donations would be greatly appreciated. We want to make it a great evening while raising money for our school.

Many of our eighth graders will be taking the De La Salle/Carondelet entrance exam on Saturday, January 20
th
. I am excited for them, and I know they will do great. Please keep them in your hearts and prayers as they take the next step in their educational journeys.
We are now accepting
applications
for TK/Kindergarten for next school year. Applications, which can be found on our school website, are due by Wednesday, January 31st. Once you have submitted your application, please call the school office to schedule your child’s testing time. If your child is a current TK student, you
DO NOT
need to fill out an online application or schedule a testing time. We will be hosting a TK/Kindergarten Informational
Open house
on Friday, January 19th at 10:00 a.m. Please help us spread the word about this event to potential families.
We are all excited that Catholic Schools Week is right around the corner! The week begins on Sunday, January 28
th
, with a sneak a peek following 9:00 a.m. mass. We are excited to offer screenings of the popular documentary
Angst
on January 29
th
. “
Angst
is a documentary that looks at anxiety, its causes and effects, and what we can do about it.
Angst
features interviews with kids and young adults who suffer or have suffered from anxiety as well as experts, science, and tools and resources that provide hope.”
Parents and 5
th
-8
th
grade students
are encouraged and invited to attend. There will be two showings: 2:30–3:30 p.m. and 7:00–8:00 p.m. in the St. Isidore Room. Kids Konnection will be free for those viewing the 2:30 showing. As a parent and an educator, I see the undue stress students experience, and it can be debilitating at times. We are raising our children in a different time than the ones in which we grew up. It is important for us to know how to help our children deal with stress and help them reach their potential while knowing what to do to avoid compounding the problem.
I want to thank you for allowing us to SERVE you and your children. I speak on behalf of my staff when I say we truly love what we do, and it is our pleasure to be part of your journey.
God bless,
Maria Ward, Principal
