February 3, 2018

The holidays now seem like a distant memory since I have been so busy at home and at the Studio preparing for our new 2018 mystery quilt. We are testing the pattern, filming the video lessons, gathering the fabric for kits and checking out the shipping options. This photo shows you a little glimpse of the behind the scenes action.

It may be hard to believe but we have already had the first meeting for our fall shop hop, Quilters' Quest. It has been moved up to October when the weather should be warmer and the days longer since we will still be on Daylight Saving Time. Mark your calendars for October 19 through 28.

We also have a lot happening at the Studio. Make sure you read on to hear about all that's new - new fabrics, new projects, new classes, new products and new reductions on sale fabrics.
Introducing My New Palette Fabrics
I created my first Palette collection in 1990 and every now and then I refresh it with dozens of new fabrics featuring updated designs and, occasionally, "tweaking" the colors.
My updated Palette #13 still features 150 tone-on-tone fabrics shading one to the next but now has 36 new fabrics.

To update your fabric library, (aka: stash), we've bundled these new fabrics together in fat quarter packs.

You can see the entire Palette collection here.
New Palette Projects

Evening Lily

Inspired by the image of an open lily, Evening Lily features the cool shades of dusk from my new Palette. The quilt is made by sewing strip-sets which are then cut into over-sized triangular or diamond units with the use of templates.

Third Rock
Now In Palette Fabrics

I've recolored my popular Third Rock quilt using my new Palette fabrics. Third Rock comes in two colorways and our kits have everything you need for the top and binding. While it looks very complex, foundation piecing makes it quite easy to sew. The quilt is made with all straight line sewing even though it has the illusion of curves. The kit also includes full size foundations printed on tissue paper.

New Product: Wooly Felted Ironing Mats
We discovered these American-made, 100% wool ironing mats at Fall Market and once I gave one a try I loved it for pressing blocks and seams. Now it is all I use. And for all you knitters out there, it is great for blocking knitting projects as well.

The mats are ½" thick and dense.  They absorb the heat essentially pressing both sides at once yet the heat and steam do not transfer to the surface below. The surface grips fabrics so they do not shift as you press them. The corners are rounded to reduce wear and tear.

We carry three sizes of the Wooly Felted Ironing Mats: 8 ½" x 8 ½", 13 ½" x 13 ½" and 17" x 17."

Get Ready for My 2018 BOM, Kyoto Mystery
Last year's Moroccan Mystery was so much fun that, after hearing back from so many of you, we've decided to do a mystery quilt again this year! This FREE mystery quilt program is only available through our newsletter with a new clue being revealed each month. I will take you step-by-step through each process of the quilt through video lessons. Encourage your friends to sign up and work along with you.

Kits will be available next month. Don't miss the sneak peak of all four colorways in the video teaser.

Moroccan Mystery

If you did not get a chance to join us for last year's Block of the Month, Moroccan Mystery, it is not too late. If you would like to give it a try, while it won't be much of a mystery it can still be a lot of fun plus a great opportunity to learn new skills.

Even if you don't plan to make the mystery quilt, our new DVD alone is an excellent tutorial in learning the basics of hand piecing. It's almost like taking one of my Quiltmaking by Hand classes.

Kits, patterns, and DVDs with all of the video lessons are now available for purchase. Click here for more information.
Look Ahead to this Spring Event - Home & Garden Tour and Classes
welcome_flowers_pear.jpg As I revealed last month, my home and gardens have been selected as part of Virginia Garden Week's home and garden tour on Tuesday, April 24th.  In conjunction with this, I will be at the shop all that day to autograph books and to demo some of my favorite tools. In the days following the tour, I will be teaching several classes and lecturing.

Further Reductions & New Fabrics Added to the Sale Bench

We have heard from many of you that our sale bench is your favorite spot to shop for backings for your quilts so you'll be happy to hear that we've added 15 new fabrics to our sale bench.

In addition to these new fabrics, we have marked the prices down on almost all the rest, including 10 fabrics at $4.95/yard - our lowest sales price ever.
