Rector's Ramblings

What an interesting week this has been! We've started the New Year with an incredible win for the Bulldogs and now a winter storm. I'm actually really glad the Bulldogs won, not just because I wanted them to win, but because I know how hard it would have been on our community if they lost. I've noticed over the years that Georgia's football performance is noticeable in the life of the congregation. I can always tell from a Sunday morning whether or not they had a big win or a tough loss. There's some research that backs up that kind of communal response to sporting events, but I've seen it first-hand without having to rely on the research.

Don't get me wrong, in the big scheme of things we would have been fine if the Dawgs had lost, but it would have been incredibly disappointing. We would have gotten over it. We still may have to, if the unthinkable happens against Alabama. But let's not think that way. This team may not lose again; apart from the hiccup with the first meeting with Auburn, there's been nothing they couldn't handle. In truth, they even handled Auburn when it comes right down to it. But most teams do meet their match at some point; that's why there can only be one on top. The adage that God doesn't give us more than we can handle isn't any more true in football than it is in life.

Worship

X Church
X Church resumes on Wednesday, January 10th, at 6:30 pm, in historic Christ Church. This is a  time of contemplation and quiet introspection, that is enhanced by candlelight, incense, beautiful music. All are welcome to this intimate weekly Holy Eucharist service which is designed to be an island of calm in the middle of a busy week.

Christ Church Christmas

The Advent season culminated in beautiful Holy Eucharist worship services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at Christ Church and St. Ignatius Chapel. Weeks of thoughtful preparation and the dedication of all who worked hard to make these services happen, made the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ a truly joyful event!  Photos of Christ Church at Christmas may be found here .

Revival at Honey CreekRevival
On Saturday, January 20, 2018, the Diocese of Georgia will offer a revival based on Fearless Faith and Boundless Love. Join us for a day of renewal and to celebrate the life and legacy of a Saint in Georgia, Deaconess Anna Alexander. The revival worship will use the propers for Deaconess Anna Alexander of Georgia (1865-1947) and displays, handouts, and a video will tell the story of this saint of Georgia.

The day begins with a service at Good Shepherd, Pennick where Deaconess Anna Alexander served. At 1:00 pm, parishioners from all over the diocese of Georgia will gather under a large tent on the grounds of Honey Creek Retreat Center to hear the Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, as he shares his message of love and renewal. Please save January 20th, as it will be a day to celebrate our faith together and to share it with others. For more information and to register online, click here

Because parking at Honey Creek is very limited, we have arranged for two buses to drive round trip from Christ Church to Honey Creek on the day of the revival. The buses leave Christ Church at 10:00 am and depart Honeycreek at 3:00 pm. The cost per person is $28. You may pay for a bus seat by check made out to Christ Church, Frederica. Write "Bus" in the memo line. Mail checks to the church office or put them in the offering plate.

Youth at the Revival!
The Youth weekend structured around the Revival: Fearless Faith, Boundless Love is still open for additional registrants. Michael Curry, while Saturday includes participation in the Saturday Eucharist at Good Shepherd, Pennick and participation in and support of the Revival at Honey Creek on Saturday afternoon!

If youth registered for this weekend in the fall, their registration was automatically rolled over to this coming weekend. However, there are additional spots available, so go ahead and sign up, and invite a friend! You do not have to be an Episcopalian to participate in the weekend or the Revival on Saturday.
