A total lunar eclipse can be an eerie sight, as the Moon grows dark and red. The early morning of Jan. 31 marks the first total lunar eclipse visible in the United States since 2015; early morning risers across the central and western United States can see a total lunar eclipse before sunrise. Lunar eclipses only happen during the full Moon, as the Moon moves into Earth’s shadow. Jan. 31 will be the second full Moon this month, making it a “Blue Moon.” It is also right after the Moon's closest point in its orbit around Earth, qualifying it as a Supermoon!

The University of Texas at Austin has funding to help you bring a project-based engineering course to your Texas high school in 2018-2019. The courses and comprehensive teacher support were developed by a team of UT faculty in collaboration with NASA engineers and secondary teachers. Students complete a series of engaging and socially relevant design challenges to develop engineering design skills, internalize engineering habits of mind, and explore the breadth of engineering professions.
Students in the first course are eligible to earn dual-enrollment credit from one of several UT institutions while they're still in high school. This may be the last year we can offer implementation support ($6200 per campus), so now is the time to learn more!
