Osha Root  ( Ligusticum porteri) also called Bear Root, has a long and colourful history of use by the Indigenous peoples of the Turtle Island. Considered by many tribes to be human in plant form, Osha is a herb of religious as well as medicinal importance. The RarĂ¡muri or Tarahumara people of northwestern Mexico use the term "Wasia" for Osha, which translates as "mother-in-law", indicating its gender identity. Osha, now known to have powerful antimicrobial and pesticidal properties, has been used to fight colds, flu, cough, fever, sore throat, migraine headache, rheumatism, indigestion, internal parasites, cancers and tumors, among other things. The root is also employed as an icon in ritual cures, such as the Yumari Dance, and a piece of the root is sometimes worn on the body to ward off negative energies. Osha can be taken as a tea, or eaten raw, or sometimes used as a smudge (burning the root and bathing in the smoke).
The term "Osha" was coined by Spanish explorers who encountered Indigenous tribes in southwestern United States. Trappers and prospectors soon learned about Osha's healing powers and gave it the names "Colorado Cough Root" and "Bear Medicine", reflecting the observation that bears liberally forage from the plant. After they'd nearly expired crossing the Rocky Mountains, Lewis and Clark are said to have been restored to health by Osha administered by the Nez Perce Indians. Osha later became a prized item for trade with the encroaching Anglos, enabling the Nez Perce to amass a herd of horses unequaled among Native American societies

Oatstraw: (Avena sativa)
One of my regular go-to's during times of stress, Oatstraw is also a popular treatment for a variety of ailments including osteoporosis, high cholesterol, strengthening bones, teeth. hair, nails, blood vessels, easing muscle cramps, protecting nerve sheaths, improving cognitive performance and much more. Oatstraw contains protein (avenins), saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroidal compounds, vitamins B1, B2, D, E, carotene, starch, and fat. It also contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron and trace elements like silicon and potassium.

Red Raspberry Leaf Tea ( Rubus idaeus)
Raspberry leaf is also one of my very favourite herbs both for its delicious taste and its many attributes. High in vitamin C and other nutrients, Raspberry Leaf has been used traditionally to strengthen the kidneys, as a treatment for incontinence, heavy menstrual bleeding, cramps, as a remedy for fever, colds and flu, inflammation of the mouth and throat, varicose veins , burns and slow healing wounds. This wonderful and tasty herb has become a popular pre-birth treatment for its relaxing, restorative and astringent effects, its ability to ease morning sickness, tone the uterus, promote breastmilk production and decrease heavy bleeding after childbirth .
