BOX TOPS - WINTER CONTEST STARTS NOW

Norman the Box Tops dog is back! The Box Tops Contest starts this week (February 5th) and runs through  February 14 . This will be a  SCHOOL-WIDE contest, so you can drop off your Box Tops either with Norman the dog (located next to the Gym), or turn them in to your teacher.

Our goal is to collect  5,000 MORE Box Tops  for the year (which includes a special reward for the kids if we achieve this goal), so let's help make this happen! (You can even ask your neighbors if they have any to donate!)

There are three ways to turn in your Box Tops:
1. Drop your Box Tops off at the Norman the dog station, and just place them in his mouth. -
2. Send Box Tops to your teacher starting  Monday, February 5th
3. Bring your Box Tops to the 2nd and 3rd grade music concerts on  Thursday, February 8th (Norman will be there!)

READ-A-THON: February 26th - March 9th

This year's Read-a-thon event at Norman Rockwell Elementary will take place February 26-March 9th to coincide with Read Across America Day, March 2nd . Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on  March 2-Dr. Seuss's birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books.

What's New With This Year's Read-a-thon:
Due to a lower number of donations this year to Rockwell PTA, our school needs to your help to raise over $2,500-$3,000 for our PTA.  That said, as children are able to participate in this year's Read-a-thon, we would really appreciate your support to raise more funds for our school while raising fluency and reading stamina!  The class with the highest sponsorship gets a movie night in April. The grade with the highest sponsorship will start a scholarship in their name for vision/hearing services.

Reader Participation Consent is Required:
Please include your child/children's first and last names, along with their teacher name using the Read-a-thon Link. Once all names have been entered, students will receive a printout from the teacher with the next steps for setting up your very own dashboard/webpage!

The first three classes to complete their Reader forms by Feb 9th will receive a BOGO Baskin Robbins card!

Come support our Read-a-thon and help us raise funds while raising reading fluency!

5th GRADE PROMOTION CHAIRS/TEAM NEEDED
* Traditionally 4th grade (& below) parents

Each school year, a small committee of 4th grade parents and staff get together to plan for a wonderful end-of-year send-off to our fifth graders. The plans include creating special banners for each graduate (the committee simply helps create the blank template with each graduate's name on it), setting up the gym the day before graduation to post all of the banners and set up the stage, order the cake and waters, and help serve the cake and support the event on graduation day (typically from  9:00am-11am ). It's a very easy and fun way to help support a very special event for our fifth graders. If you are interested in serving as a chair person for this year's 5th grade promotion, please contact  Ellie O'Rourke  (last year's 5th grade promotion chair), who can send you all of the specific information. Thanks!
