Latest Pelican Politics Looks Back on Louisiana's 2017 Advocacy Accomplishments

It's no secret that this past year brought many changes to the League, but one thing that stayed constant was our commitment to servicing our credit unions, particularly in the advocacy arena. LCUL prides ourselves on the continuous research, lobbying, and open communication with our partners like Adams and Reese and Dennis Dollar Associates as well as members of our delegation.

LCUL distributed a special edition of Pelican Politics last month highlighting our advocacy accomplishments in 2017. This past year produced a number of political victories for credit unions everywhere, but Louisiana credit unions should be proud of our many accomplishments on the local level.

A special thanks to Louisiana credit union advocates for working with us year-round. We encourage you to stay politically engaged and actively involved with your League so that we can keep the conversation going and do even greater things in 2018.

Last Chance: Dues Subsidized Training Offers Interactive Role-Playing Simulations
Let's kick off 2018 with a little reminder of why credit unions exist and how we can continue our philosophy of People Helping People. LCUL is proud to co-host an economically priced Dues Subsidized training day that is not just for the mind, but for the heart.

Join us in Baton Rouge on Monday January 15 for a role playing Life Simulation that takes you on a journey that many of our members travel on daily.  You will experience the emotional and financial stresses of trying to live paycheck to paycheck.  The lessons you will learn in debriefing from this eye-opening simulation will stay with you for years to come and transform your mindset and approach to your members.

Participants will also engage in a Retirement Simulation in the afternoon session. This simulation uses the choices you make about the type of lifestyle you envision for your retirement and link them to decisions to help best plan for it.

There is also a pre-conference option on Sunday afternoon where a round table discussion will focus on ways to enhance existing Financial Counseling Programs, Sub Prime Auto Loan Programs and other idea sharing to help our members.

Have you previously participated in a Life Simulation from the National Credit Union Foundation?  If so, you know that it takes a team of volunteers to work the simulation booths.  If you would like to join us as a booth volunteer, please contact Jody Brooks.  Volunteers are only need from 8 am - noon and are invited to stay for lunch with the group.
