Help, Resources for Parents to Discuss Broward Tragedy with Children

Last week's tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County continues to make headlines around the world, and many students have undoubtedly been exposed to news and social media posts about the shooting. If your children have questions about what they've seen and heard, these resources may be helpful.

Practicing Peace: Student With Autism Teaches Yoga
Students at Boca Raton Community High School are becoming the change they wish to see in the world.

What started as a group of 35 students learning yoga several years ago has blossomed to nearly 1,000 students today. The program is especially important to senior Michael Gorlano, a student with autism. He regularly leads yoga sessions for students, including students from Marjory St oneman Douglas High School.

"One of the first times he taught a class I was like, crying at the end of it, just because his words just melted me, and he was so amazing at it. I'm so proud of him," teacher Catherine Payne shared.

Students hope to expand the program in the future, spreading their message of peace and wellness throughout Palm Beach County Schools. Watch the video...

Building Bonds Through Sign Language: Teacher's Legacy Lives On
Ms. Debra Coccia was a dedicated educator for 43 years and touched the lives of many Palm Beach County students, including those in her first grade classes at  Lighthouse Elementary School in Jupiter.

The Education Network visited Lighthouse Elementary last year to learn more about a unique partnership between Ms. Coccia and Ms. Barows of  William T. Dwyer High School  that allowed students from both schools to practice their American Sign Lang uage Skills together.

Ms. Coccia passed away on February 10 after a brave battle with cancer. Watch the video...


Career Exploration "Heats" Up For Congress Middle School Students
Congress Middle School students recently had the opportunity to be a part of sports history! 

While taking a trip down to Miami to learn more about operations and careers associated with the  Miami Heat, they also witnessed the historic return of  Dwayne Wade to #DWadeCounty!  Watch the video...
