Russell's Ritings....

A fanciful, but fruitful, story relates how a man died, went to heaven, and was met by St. Peter. St. Peter told the man he had to have accumulated one hundred points before he could come in. The man then started a recitation of all his good works on earth.

"I was a devoted church member for forty years," said the man. "Good," replied St. Peter. "That's worth one point."

"During all those years I tithed my income," said the man. "Good," replied St. Peter. "That's one more point."

"I raised a moral and productive family," said the man. "Good," replied St. Peter. "That's worth still one more point."

Fearful now, the man exclaimed, "Only three points for all that? I'll never get into heaven except for the grace of God." Peter then said, "The grace of God is worth ninety-seven points. Come on in."

It is indeed only by His grace we find life and that eternal. We have entered Lent, a forty day period for fasting and repentance as we remember those many ways we all fall short of His grace. I invite you to join me in a Lenten discipline of prayer, fasting, and repentance as we prepare our hearts for Easter. Specifically, I am inviting you to join me in praying daily at 7 a. m., attending worship service during the seven Sundays of Lent/Easter, and inviting seven persons to church during this season.

This Sunday's sermon, Lent 1, the sermon will be "A New Heart". The dual texts for Sunday are Ezekiel 18:31b and Ezekiel 36:26. I hope to see you!

From the Heart,
Russell

DID YOU KNOW?

There are many ways you can support our church besides the Sunday morning offering. Here are just a few:

Birthday Donations
During the month of your birthday make a donation to the church equal to the number of years you have been on this earth (or any number you are comfortable with). Make a birthday donation for your parents, children or best friend

Grocery Card Purchases
Purchase a King Soopers or Safeway reloadable gift card at the church. Use it and keep reloading it to buy your groceries and gasoline at King Soopers or Safeway. Buy the grocery cards for family members, friends, service providers, etc. Encourage them tot he reload the cards and use them to purchase their groceries and gasoline. The church makes 5% on grocery card purchases.

Vehicle Donation
Donate your used vehicle to the church. We have a contract with an organization which sells used vehicles. They give a portion of the sales price to our church.

IRA Rollovers to Benefit the Church
The IRA rollover is a simple and easy way to grow God's kingdom.  If you are 70½, you may rollover up to $100,000 from your IRA to the church without paying any federal income tax on your gift. Your gift to the church from your IRA will qualify for your 2018 required minimum distribution (RMD).  To make an IRA rollover gift in 2018, simply contact your custodian and request that all or  part of your required minimum distribution  (RMD) be transferred to the church. For more information, visit rm-umf.org or contact the United Methodist Foundation at 303-778-6370.

All of these donations provided added benefit to our church. Thank you for your support!

"GIVING PLACE" FOOD REQUESTS

We have a "Giving Place" in the Fellowship Room corner where we collect food for Evergreen Christian Outreach and the Mountain Resource Center.   On the 2nd Sunday of each month we pass baskets with requests for specific items. We ask you to take a slip or two and bring the item back to the church when you can, possible the next week.

ADULT EDUCATION

Sunday, February 18 from 9:30-10:20 am

Please join us at church to hear more from our Church and Society team.  This presentation will be:

February 18: Peace with Justice and Economic Justice (Facilitated by Robin Roberts, Susan Roberts, and Pem Dunn)

Church and Society committees across our United Methodist Church work in areas of important social concern both within the U.S. and around the world. During the fall of 2017, the Inclusiveness Task Force reformed as the Church and Society Team.  Guided by our mission of "living our lives and serving Christ in the contemporary world through faith, action and justice," we strive to live out our faith in our everyday lives.  We welcome all who interested to join this team and to learn more about the work of Church and Society during this four-week series. Each week, we will explore two of the six focus areas on which Church and Society concentrates and examine the Biblical foundations of these focus areas.

All are welcome!
