The Hart House Debates and Dialogue Committee explores issues of concern for students and for all Canadians. Traditional topics for debate such as economics and education have expanded to include broad-based public conversations about mental health, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, views of women in the legal system and refugee policy.

The second session of the academic year occurred on Feb. 1 bringing together students from across U of T to join with their fellow university students in Bogotá, Colombia; Cape Town, South Africa; and Indiana, USA.
Their topic of discussion: the role of civil society in working to achieve peaceful pluralism in a time of both globalism and a growing backlash against globalism.

Accessible Theatre
Through the generous support of t
he William and Nona Heaslip Foundation and the Audrey S. Hellyer Charitable Foundation, Hart House Theatre is working to enable those with mobility challenges or hearing or visual impairments to enjoy an evening of theatre. Other capital improvement projects are in the works to make Hart House even more accessible.

Tim O'Leary had no idea where a chance meeting at a Hart House debating event would lead until almost 20 years later
In the first week of September 1991, Tim was walking across Hart House Circle when he bumped into Mike, a fellow frosh. After the usual pleasantries, Mike invited Tim to the Hart House Debating Union's open house for new students. Picturing a room awash in pocket protectors and copies of Bourinot's Rules of Order, Tim declined--until Mike mentioned the free food and drink. A plan to meet at Hart House was immediately agreed upon.

Welcome to the Winter 2018 edition of the Hart House Quarterly
The months from January to March are among the most exciting, and certainly among the busiest, of the year at Hart House.
