School Safety:
Our hearts go out to the Stoneman Douglas High School community in Florida.  When tragic events like this happen, it's a good reminder to review our emergency management protocol.  Here are ten important ways staff members can contribute to keeping our schools as safe as possible.

1.   Check phones for ALL CALL code, be ready to use it.
Everett: 11618
Sheridan: 11619
Cherokee: 11620
DPME/W: 11624
      Announcement suggestion: "Attention, attention,
lockdown immediately,  lockdown immediately"
(repeat if time allows).

2.   Announce a lockdown first, call 9-1-1 second
Get people behind locked doors as swiftly as possible.

3.   Contact emergency personnel by dialing 911 (8 911 works too)

4.   Consistently use Door Bloks

5.   Keep exterior doors locked and  not propped

6.   Use lockdown poster to talk with students about procedures.
Note: Procedures reflect standard protocol; however, every
situation is different and may require professional judgment
and alternative actions.  Standard protocols are not designed
to limit choices.

7.   D irect visitors to office if no visitor's badge
Call office for assistance if you feel unsafe approaching
individual.

8.   Be  ready and knowledgable to help substitute teachers

9.   Report suspicious behavior, observations, or items to office

10.  Review multi-colored emergency flipchart
Note:  Flipcharts are being revised and the red/green card
section for  lockdowns will be removed.

Thank you for all your efforts.

Sincerely,
Ingrid Wiemer - Executive Director of Student Services
Conrad Christensen - School Resource Officer
