Attorney helps mom stay in her daughter's life
This client (pictured on the right with her mother) was worried she would lose custody of her daughter due to past issues she had overcome. But then she met

, Merrill Law Firm, who was volunteering at the Domestic Relations Help Desk. "We were told by a friend to go the BBVLP for help and the help was excellent," the client, who came to the Help Desk with her mother, said. "I was worried I would lose custody without the help of an attorney but April Bauder and Heather Bussey (BBVLP Staff Attorney) helped me receive joint custody."
Closing the loop for families
Nine volunteer attorneys helped 24 low-income clients close the loop on their family law issues at the February
Self-Represented Docket in Domestic Relations Court.
Many of the clients at these dockets organized by
Judge Patricia Stephens and
Judge Nakita Blocton
(center) have already received legal assistance at the Domestic Relations Help Desk. The attorneys volunteering at the dockets get the clients over the finish line.

Calling all fantastic judges, attorneys, and law students who have volunteered to help homeless clients overcome legal problems at
Project Homeless Connect on Saturday, February 24th! Below are details:
Training:
4-5PM
THIS MONDAY, February 19th, The Great Room at Cumberland School of Law
Volunteering Time:
7:30-11:30 a.m. first shift,
11-3 p.m.
second shift (Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to get into the Boutwell)
Dress:
Jeans and other comfortable clothes. Please wear a red t-shirt if possible.
We will have forms, etc.
Please bring notebook, pen, and computers are optional
Boutwell Auditorium:
1930 8th Avenue North
Parking on street or in deck attached to the auditorium
Enter through alley...sign says "Attorneys"
There will be a sign-in station where you will be given red wristbands
Legal Area is located in the back of the auditorium by the stairs (see sign "Legal Area")

Please remember this will be a very busy event. Last year at Project Homeless Connect we alone helped over 250 Homeless Clients and over 350 Homeless Clients attended.
