Black History Month Spotlight: Lewis H. Latimer
This year marks 100 years since Lewis H. Latimer was named a member of the "Edison Pioneers," the only African American in an elite group of inventors acclaimed for creating the nation's electric industry. Latimer was  working as a manager and draftsman for the U.S. Electric Lighting Company, when it sought to improve upon Edison's electric light bulb, which had a very short lifespan. Latimer devised a way of prolonging the life of the bulb, making it more economical and energy-efficient. Today, he is revered as one of the most important black inventors of all time.
