School Security
Message from Dr. Spurka
Yesterday, we received news about another horrific shooting in our public schools, this time at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Our hearts and our thoughts go out to the victims and their families, and we stand united with the Broward County Public Schools community.

Media coverage of this tragedy may prompt questions and concerns from your children, and we want to provide resources that may help during these difficult conversations. According to the National Association of School Psychologists, high-profile acts of violence in schools can confuse and frighten students who may feel they, their friends, or their loved ones are in danger. They will look to adults for guidance about how to react, and adults can help by talking with them about their fears.

For help with these conversations, please visit this online resource: Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers. This printable handout is available in ten languages. We also encourage you to talk with your school counselors if you need support or see any signs of distress or concerning behavior.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Fulton County Schools' professional Safety Team works directly with all schools and local agencies to ensure coordinated approaches to school safety, and all schools are required to have emergency action plans.

Finally, it's important to remind your children that if they "see something, say something."  Research shows warning signs occur in more than 80% of violent incidents. Fulton County Schools provides a system for students, parents, educators, and community members to report concerns anonymously. The links to anonymously report a threat or tip:
 [email protected] or  https://asp.schoolmessenger.com/fultonschools/quicktip/ .

Our administration and School Police Officer will continue to provide a high level of visibility to ensure our students feel safe.  Keeping our kids, teachers, and schools safe is the responsibility of everyone in our community, and I appreciate all your help and support. Please keep the families affected by yesterday's school shooting in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you,

Dr. Ed Spurka
School Governance Council
Parent/Guardian and Teacher Elections
Cambridge High School will be electing new representatives to serve on the School Governance Council. Two parent/guardian positions and one teacher position are open for election this spring. Our School Governance Council has a leadership role in the governance of the school. The Council works with the Principal on the long-term vision and strategy for the school. They are responsible for approving the school's strategic plan and budget recommendations, as well as designing innovative solutions to increase academic achievement and meeting the unique needs of our school community. This past year, our Council worked diligently to develop a request for flexibility to allow for an increase in time for our teachers to participate in Professional Learning Communities, and requested for seed funds to help address security needs.

Elections for the parent/guardian and teacher positions on the School Governance Council will be held March 19 - March 23, 2018. Candidates interested in running for an elected position on the Council must complete a candidate declaration form and submit to the district office by February 23, 2018.

Candidate forms may be submitted electronically from the Council Candidate Guide below, or picking up a form from the Front Office and submitting by mail by following the instructions on the back of the form. For additional information on our School Governance Council and elections, view our School
Governance Council webpage  or read the School Governance Council Candidate Guide .

New AP Exam Registration Policy
Registration now open
Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Cambridge High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.  For the 2018 AP exams, students at Cambridge High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any device with internet access.

This year each AP exam is free for students currently enrolled in AP courses. Cambridge High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Any current student NOT enrolled in an AP course, but wishes to sit for an AP exam in a course, will incur a fee of $94 per exam.

Online Exam registration is now open and will end on Wednesday, February  28, 2018, at 11:59 pm .

For more information and a link to register, visit www.cambridgehs.org, "Students" and "Student Testing."

Partnership Against Domestic Violence Teen Summit
Dialogue and Action
Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) is proud to announce our 9th annual Teen Summit! As youth begin dating, it's important they are equipped with the necessary tools to help them engage in healthy interaction. Teen Summit offers parents and teens an improved understanding of the ingredients that make up respectful relationships, as well as how to recognize the warning signs and patterns of dating violence.

The 2018 Teen Summit will empower teens and adults to deepen the dialogue on teen dating violence, and prompt next steps that will help drive "Dialogue and Action".  Through hands-on activities, workshops, and teen-led sessions, this event will equip both teens and adults with the tools necessary to not only engage in hard conversations but grow in an understanding of each other's perspectives and concerns and generate plans of action attendees can take back to their own communities.

Cambridge Job Fair
Open to Cambridge Community and Business Partners
The job fair will be from 10:30 am- 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 22, 2018 . You will be able to set up an informal stand from which you can accept resumes, hand out applications, or simply talk to students who may be interested in seasonal employment.

Work-Based Learning  is also a unique program that Cambridge offers. It allows juniors and seniors, if they have a free period or two, to work for you in exchange for class credit. Many of these students can be employees year-round, in positions that are typically paid internships.

  • Three teacher recommendations
  • Discipline and attendance records reviewed
  • Completed a three-year Pathway
  • Participated in panel interviews
