Beginning Scuba Diving
This 1 credit beginner course explores the theory of scuba diving and the physiological effects on the human body. In a classroom environment, students will be introduced to the underwater world, learn safe diving practices, and the fundamentals to avoiding decompression sickness. Following classroom study, students will dive in confined water (pool) and learn 23 essential skills required for scuba certification. *Participants will not be certified divers upon completion of this course.

The CSI Foundation is pleased to announce the spring round for Mini Grants and for Professional Development Grants. Up to $3,000 is available for each of these grants and projects are to be completed within a year of the award. The due date for these grants is midnight Wednesday March 14, 2018 and proposals are to be submitted on the CSI Common Grant Application form which can be found online at the links below.
Professional Development Grants - support travel to attend national conferences for the purpose of institutional improvement.

Help Sustainability and Maintenance recycle cardboard. Cardboard is the number one product in our current recycling stream, followed by newspaper and paper.
Approximately 85% of all products that are sold in the USA are packed in cardboard. Yes 85%. Cardboard is a raw material called pulp which is extracted from tress. From this point alone, we should really attempt to recycle cardboard to limit the amount of deforestation that occurs in the world. It is very local from the point of view we need the oxygen that trees give off.
We know manufacturing is not the best friend to the environment that we live in and every step that we can help ourselves out we should invest in that process. Adopting greener ways of use of the products around us will not only help us it will help the environment that we must live in.
Other reasons to recycle cardboard. It is single largest component that is going into our solid waste dumps around the world. If we can keep that number down our landfills will last a lot longer.
Fascinating Facts:
544,000 trees could be saved each year by replacing just one roll 100 percent recycled paper towels.
For every ton (2,000 pounds) of cardboard recycled we can save 9 cubic yards of landfill space. What is 9 cubic yards? Just picture 1,800-gallon milk jugs.
Each ton of recycled paper saves approximately 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 4,000 kilowatts of energy, 7,000 gallons of water. This represents 64% energy savings, 58% water savings and saves 60 pounds of estimated air pollution. Also absorbs about 250 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air.

National History Day in Idaho is an exciting way to engage students in history. The program pulls students out of the classroom and into the world of the professional historian. Students track down information about historic people and events by exploring archives, libraries, and other resources. The program culminates at the national competition held each June at the University of Maryland at College Park. This year's theme, Conflict & Compromise in History, requires you to view history through multiple perspectives.
When: March 3, 2018 (Saturday)
Time commitment: 4-5 hours (breakfast, lunch and gift of thanks will be provided)
Why do it? Judging is an interesting way to connect with students, support your community, and learn about history! Come and be inspired by Idaho students!
History Day judges review entries in a specific category, interview students, provide constructive feedback, and determine which students advance to the next level of competition.

To assist students in addressing legal problems and issues, the College of Southern Idaho provides a free legal clinic. Once per month, local attorneys are available to assist students in obtaining proper resources, preparing pro se documents, and by explaining legal rights and processes.
Appointments will be available from 3 pm to 5 pm in half hour increments. If you are interested in further information or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the Office of Student Affairs (732-6224).

Also, enjoy a sneak peek into the group's future Refugee Project.
The CSI Stage Door Series, intimate arts experiences where both performers and audience members are on the stage itself, are designed to be thought-provoking and a little out of the ordinary in different ways - whether it's because of the intimate setting, the material performed, the way they are presented, or the collaborations involved. Follow up productions include TBD: To Be Devised featuring Flying Bobcat Theater, and Sentences.

"The Golden Age of Broadway" will be taking the place of I Love a Piano for the Arts on Tour schedule at 7:30 p.m. on February 16. The show will expand the repertoire from Irving Berlin and is a special concert that focuses on the wonderful music and lyrics from the greatest composers of the American Songbook. The musical pays tribute to iconic musicals such as "Guys and Dolls," "My Fair Lady," "Music Man," and West Side Story,". Broadway performers Michelle Knight and Patrick Ryan Sullivan, accompanied by a four-piece orchestra, will perform classics from Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Kern, Jerry Herman, Richard Rodgers, Frank Loesser, Kander & Ebb, and George Gershwin. The musical gems include "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Don't Rain on My Parade," and "I Could Have Danced All Night". Song selections are from the most beloved shows and by the greatest composers and lyricists from Broadway.
 MICHELLE KNIGHT - Michelle is an Orlando native and UCF grad. After being on Broadway with Jersey Boys, Michelle premiered and starred in the off Broadway musical Disenchanted (Lucille Lortel award Nominee-Lead Actress). Other credits include national tours of Grease(Rizzo) and the 30th anniversary tour of Annie. Michelle is often a leading player with the Orlando Philharmonic (My Fair Lady, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, How to Succeed.)and tours with the concert "Rhapsody & Rhythm: The Michelle has also been in several shows at Walt Disney World with the Voices of Liberty, and as Dory in Finding Nemo the Musical. https://www.broadwayworld.com/people/Michelle-Knight/ and https://www.growingbolder.com/happily-ever-after-926072/
 PATRICK RYAN SULLIVAN - Patrick had the privilege of remounting the Jerry Orbach role in the National Tour of 42nd Street the Musical. Mark Bramble, the author of the show, was quoted as saying, "I have never seen a better Julian Marsh." Upon his recommendation and rave reviews across the country, Patrick was transferred to the Broadway show to take over for Tom Wopat (who had moved onto the lead in Chicago). In the Broadway company of TITANIC, Sullivan stood by for, and played three leads. Upon the closing he landed the role of Gaston in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast. He was the last Gaston to play the role at the incredible Palace Theatre in NYC and spent two years performing opposite Andre' McCardle (the original ANNIE), as Belle. He played Billy Flynn in the Macau, China company of CHICAGO, translated in three different languages. CSI Theater Department presents: "Measure for Measure"

Once again, the plays of William Shakespeare give us insight and commentary on events in our own culture. Join the CSI Theater Department as we explore the roles of gender in our culture, and how they relate to mercy, hypocrisy, and the abuse of power. The city of Venice is one overrun by brothels and a loose set of morals. The Duke, unwilling to use his authority to institute change departs, leaving Angelo in charge. Angelo, initially reluctant, soon starts to reinstate older, harsher laws to force morality on the city and close the brothels. The changes highlight the hypocrisy of the ruling elite, and the temptation to abuse power. Tickets: $10/adults or $5/seniors or students. CSI students are free.

EXPLORE HERRETT: S.T.E.A.M. Camp-In
(Formerly Science Camp- In)
March 9th & 10th, 2018
Each year the Herrett Center for Arts & Science hosts around 100 third, fourth, and fifth graders for a Science Camp-In. This year we have changed our Science Camp-In to our S.T.E.A.M. Camp-In. During this event, participants will travel around campus to attend workshops in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Participants also have the opportunity to visit the Herrett Center's planetarium and observatory, as well as participate in other fun activities. Snacks will be provided in the evening and after a night of fun and learning, participants will spend the night sleeping in the galleries! A light breakfast will be served in the morning before participants go home.
Registration for S.T.E.A.M. Camp-In is now open! The S.T.E.A.M. Camp-In will be $50 per participant. Registration is on a first come, first served basis and participants must have a completed registration form and a received payment in order to hold a position in the camp-in. In the weeks leading up to the 'American Creed' documentary broadcast, Idaho Public Television - along with partners the Idaho Statesman and the Boise State University Center for Idaho History and Politics - is organizing a public screening of clips from American Creed that will include a panel discussion on a topic that affects Idahoans.

The Twin Falls City Pool is excited to announce a new partnership with CSI to provide a morning Water Fitness Class. The class is geared towards people over 60, however if you are not 60 you are welcome to attend as well (people 60 and older will have priority registration if space becomes limited).
This class will have a variety of exercises that anyone who loves water fitness classes is sure to enjoy! The class will meet at 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and will run from February 26 - May 25.
If you have a City Pool Pass the price is $47 and for the community it is $90. Registration can be done at the CSI Rec. Center building on the west side of the CSI campus.
