Donations on Fri., Feb. 9 reached $5,000 and will go to help Project Education in Nicaragua, CISE, and Rocket Relief.
Thanks to all who participated!

Making the Most of this Lenten Season

Pope Francis' Lenten Message

The 2018 Lenten Message of His Holiness Pope Francis is both brief and profound. Drawing primarily upon a passage from a passage from the Gospel of Matthew that proclaims that "Because of the increase of iniquity, the love of many will grow cold," (Matthew 24:12), his letter calls us all to "come back to the Lord wholeheartedly and in every aspect of our life." Pope Francis' 2018 Lenten Message can be found here in its entirety, and we offer the following invitations and resources for all who seek, as Pope Francis invites us, "to take up the Lenten journey with enthusiasm, sustained by almsgiving, fasting, and prayer."

Basic Information on the Season of Lent
Find everything you could possibly want to know about the season of Lent from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops here

A Lenten  Calendar
There you will find  a calendar with daily inspirations that can either be printed or viewed online. In addition, the local  Franciscan Media offers a  daily Lenten calendar featuring "wonderful ways to nourish your heart, mind, and soul this Lenten season."

What is Lent? Video Series
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the relief and development organization of the United States Catholic Church, and is celebrating its 75th year of service to the global human family. CRS is motivated by Jesus' example to ease suffering and to inspire charity and justice, and is most visibly present in parishes and schools in the United States during the season of Lent through its annual  CRS Rice Bowl initiative. The following brief videos are visually captivating and very effectively "break open" various aspects of what the Lenten season has to offer:

Lent is a Time of Quiet  to Hear God's Call to Serve with Fr. James Martin, S.J.

Lent is Fasting to Prepare Us for the Feast  with Christopher West

Ash Wednesday Mass
As a school community, we will enter the Lenten season with the celebration of the Eucharist at 1:10 pm at Guardian Angels today with Fr. Ryan Ruiz, Director of Liturgy at the Athenaeum of Ohio, as our presider. As always, all members of the extended McNicholas community are invited and welcome to join us as we worship and enter into this season of prayer, fasting, and the giving of alms.

Friday Morning Mass
Fr. Paul Ruwe will be present this Friday, February 16th and next Friday, February 23rd to celebrate the Eucharist in our school's chapel at 7:00 am. All students, faculty, staff, and parents who are seeking to deepen their commitment to prayer are welcome and invited to be present.

Encounter the Peace of Christ--Parish Reconciliation Opportunities
On Tuesday, February 27th, from 7:00 pm through 9:00 pm, every parish or region in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati will have its doors open for quiet prayer and the opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance. Caring and understanding priests will be available to listen and to witness to healing ministry of Christ.  For more information, visit Encounter Peace.org

The Venerable Tradition of the Lenten Fish Fry
While it's certainly not an exhaustive list, the Catholic Telegraph published this list Lenten Dining Guide which could certainly be of help in planning a family dinner on the Friday evenings of Lent.

Upcoming Retreats for the Class of 2018
Preparations are being finalized for the upcoming Spring Appalachia and Kairos 113 retreats, both of which begin next Tuesday, February 20th.
Please keep the students participating in your prayers. A list of the students who will take part in each of these retreats can be found here.

The Power of Love
McNicholas High School students have had some incredible opportunities to witness the power of love this semester. This video by junior Vincent Ramundo and senior Brandon Bagley captures the experiences and renews our commitment to witness the power of love this Lenten season.

Theatre Department presents The Pajama Game
The Pajama Game
was awarded the 1955 Tony for Best Musical and, over half of a century later, claimed the award for Best Revival of a Musical, proving that the story is truly timeless. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross ( Damn Yankees),  The Pajama Game is brimming with songs and dances that have become musical theatre standards, including "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway."
Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful as sparks fly between new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 ½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.
Featuring plenty of fun and splashy production numbers,  The Pajama Game is fun for all ages.
All performances at The Anderson Center, 7850 Five Mile Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45230
Thurs., March 1 @ 7:00 p.m.
Fri., March 2 @7:30 p.m.
Sat., March 3 @ 2:00 p.m.
