Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. The Lenten season is a time of spiritual renewal and preparation for the resurrection of Jesus at Easter.

It's no coincidence that Lent lasts 40 days. 40 is a common number found in scripture. Moses and the Israelites wander the Sinai desert for 40 years. Jesus fasted in the Judean desert for 40 days and nights where Satan tempts him. In both of these instances the time in the desert was a preparation for what was to come.

During these 40 days of Lent St. Josaphat Parish, along with the Universal Church will also be in a time of preparation. As such St. Josaphat will have certain Spiritual Practices available during Lent.

On Friday March 9th, 16th and the 23rd at 7 pm we will pray the Stations of the Cross in Church. The Stations are like a mini pilgrimage that transports us to the 'Via Dolorosa', the path that Jesus walked on his way to Golgotha. We can pray with Jesus along the 14 stations that mark his passionate sacrifice.

After Stations we will have time available for personal reflection and prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament and Confession available as well.

Little Black Books and Word Among Us Missalettes are available at all entrances of church. Spend a little time each day reading and preparing for Easter.

We will conduct a Parish Mission on March 18th & 19th, with Fr. Brad Zamora and Fr. Matt O'Donnell preaching. This is a great opportunity to pray and sing as a community while hearing insight from two great priests.

We hope you can join us!

New Policy for Children in the Rectory
Jesus says, "Let the little children come to me." We love having children at the rectory. However, to keep in compliance with the Archdiocesan program for keeping children safe, we cannot have children under the age of 18 in the rectory without constant adult supervision. If you are in the rectory with your children, please keep them with you in your meeting. Thank you.
