Letter from the President
Dear Readers,
First and foremost, thank you! Whatever your role, thank you for being a part of the Toledo Rep: coming out to our shows, participating in our classes, supporting us financially, and helping to bring our productions to life on the stage. No matter how big or small a part you have played, our 85th season could not be the success it has been without you.
The excitement this season continues as we bring back our innovative
Toledo Voices series for a second straight year.
Toledo Voices showcases unproduced plays by local playwrights in a series of premiere readings, taking place on our 10th Street Stage on three Saturday evenings in February, March and April. The first reading will be of William McMillen's
First Do No Harm on February 24th. Be sure to stick around after the performance for a talk back with the playwright, director, and cast!
That same Saturday, February 24th, marks the start of our winter session of Adult Acting, with
Craft of Acting II. Dr. Deborah M. Coulter-Harris is returning to teach this advanced 8-week course and with enrollment more limited than the Craft of Acting I class in the fall, I wouldn't wait too long if you're thinking about signing up for this one!
One more upcoming event I want to highlight is our March play,
Photograph 51, a moving portrait of female scientist Rosalind Franklin and her pivotal role in the discovery of DNA's double helix structure. For those of you interested in bringing students or school groups to see this play, as well as those of you with a love of science, I'm happy to announce that The Rep has partnered with Imagination Station, who will be doing live science demonstrations in our lobby before the show on the following dates: March 10th, 24th, and 25th. The demos will explore various science topics related to the subject matter of the show. You can contact our box office for further details on group discount rates.
As I bring this letter to a close, I'm pleased to share with you the announcement of our 86th season for 2018-19!
We're expanding our Mainstage series to six shows with numerous award winners and classics among them. We don't think you'll want to miss a single one! You can find the full lineup in the following section.
Last but not least, I want to make an invitation to anyone considering expanding their role in our story. If you have an interest in giving back to your community and playing a larger part as our theatre programming grows and develops, please check out the applications (

Synopsis:
The Normal Heart is a largely autobiographical play that focuses on the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984 as seen through the eyes of writer/activist Ned Weeks, the founder of The Gay Men's Health Crisis. Ned prefers loud public confrontations to the calmer, more private strategies favored by his associates, friends, and closeted lover Felix Turner. Their difference of opinion lead to frequent arguments that threaten to undermine their mutual goal. Originally produced Off-Broadway, a revival opened on Broadway in 2011, and was adapted into an award-winning HBO movie in 2014

Synopsis:
The Children's Hour revolves around idle gossip between schoolgirls that escalates into a fiasco. The story is a powerful tale of truth and lack thereof. Hellman creates a tense atmosphere between teachers and pupils. Problem-child Mary Tilford accuses her teachers, Karen Wright and Martha Dobie, of foul play. She says she hears "strange noises" coming from their room and "gets scared" because she doesn't know what they are up to. Mary "confesses" her self-made lie to her grandmother, who begins the demise of the teachers. This attack on Dobie and Wright leads them to question their own relationships, in both personal and professional ways.

These supporting roles are incredibly important to the telling of the story. Each actor will play as many as three characters each.
Synopsis:
Act One recounts the major episodes of the Old Testament, but instead of Adam and Eve, our lead characters are Adam and Steve, and Jane and Mabel, a lesbian couple with whom they start civilization. Act One covers the Garden of Eden, an ark, a visit with a highly rambunctious Pharaoh and finally even the Nativity. Along the way, Mabel and Adam invent God, but Jane and Steve are skeptical. Act Two jumps to modern day Manhattan. Adam and Steve are together again, and Steve is HIV positive. It's Christmas Eve, and Jane is nine months pregnant even though she always thought of herself as the butch one. The two women want to marry and want Adam and Steve to join them in the ceremony. A wheelchair-bound, Jewish lesbian Rabbi from cable access TV arrives to officiate.

A friendly game of pirates becomes all too real when overzealous Theodore accidentally falls into a giant sinkhole and wakes up to find himself amongst real high sea swashbucklers. Before getting back to the real world, he is forced on an epic journey with his companion Harriet the Ghost in a quest to find the notorious pirate Weird Beard and foil the mutinous Mr. Clunky Bones. Will Theodore be able to save Captain Cramp Hand's ship from falling into evil clutches and return to his friends in time for ice cream?

A taxi dancer who desperately wants to be loved.
Oscar Lindquist: A man whom Charity befriends and eventually falls in love with.
Charlie: Charity's boyfriend at the top of the show, a silent hunk.
Nickie and Helene: Charity's closest friends, also taxi dancers at the Fandango Ballroom.
Herman: The authoritarian owner of the Fandango Ballroom; Charity's boss.
Vittorio Vidal: A famous Italian movie star.
Ursula March: Vittorio's girlfriend.
Daddy Johann Sebastian Brubeck: The enigmatic leader of the Rhythm of Life Church.
Carmen: A dancer at the Fandango Ballroom who is friends with Nickie, Helene, and Charity.
Rosie: The new dancer at the Fandango Ballroom.
Suzanne, Frenchie, Betsy, and Elaine: Dancers at the Fandango Ballroom.
Sweet Charity has a large Ensemble that sings, dances, and plays an assortment of small character roles.
Have you ever known a girl who wanted something so badly that she tried too hard to get it? Meet Sweet Charity, who sings, dances, laughs, and cries her way through romances. Her world is the all too real world of Times Square, and the people who pass through are as deceptively charming a group as ever swept across any stage. With a book by the king of comedy Neil Simon, this five-time Tony Award winner includes the iconic musical numbers "Big Spender", "If My Friends Could See Me Now", and "I'm a Brass Band".

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This eight-week acting class is designed for those who seek to improve their
craft. The class will focus on physical and vocal characterization and stage presence; actors will participate in learning how to create a character's purpose and complexity and develop the skills to use their bodies and voices to reflect a character's personality.
Students will participate in several one-act plays, monologues, or scenes that offer exceptional challenges for actors in terms of physicality, vocalization and accents, characterization, style, content, and textual analysis. Actors will explore and develop advanced acting methodologies and will learn varied approaches for creating authentic and credible characters through reacting to other actors, objects, and, the physical environments. The course will end with a public showcase of monologues and multi-actor scene presentations.

The Rep is Looking For Videographer Volunteers!
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is looking for qualified individuals to perform freelance videography work for
our marketing/advertising team. The goal of our marketing department is to strengthen the
Toledo Rep brand and to promote all events, programs, classes, productions and outreach
initiatives of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre.
As a videography volunteer, you should be prepared to work in an exciting, creative and fast-paced environment.
Candidates should have an entrepreneurial mindset for project development and a strong
drive to take on challenges. They must be self-motivated, a strong team player, able to
think outside the box, and be comfortable taking the lead in facilitating, planning and
executing the digital video productions of the Toledo Rep.
Responsibilities
* To create promotional videos which will be used and distributed online through the
Toledo Rep website, email announcements, video sharing sites, social media
networking, and lobby displays, with a possibility of footage being used in larger
markets in the future.
* Video coverage expected of, but not limited to, all Mainstage productions, all Young Rep
productions, all special events, all readings, all fundraisers, all Rep Ed classes,
workshops and showcases, and general season promotion.
* Integrate photography, text, graphics, animation, voice over, testimony, etc. to create
vibrant videos that bring the Toledo Rep to life.
* Consult with directors, casts, and the marketing department to create premium content.
* Other responsibilities might include, but are not limited to, creating educational footage
to accompany the staged productions in the form of informational, historical videos that
will play in the lobby for our patrons and guests.
The is an unpaid, volunteer position.

Education is one of the central aspects of our mission here at the Toledo Rep and we are always looking for new instructors to include in our program. If you are interested in being a part of our education program, please let us know! A background in teaching is desired, although not necessarily required. We are looking for people experienced in one or more of the many aspects of theatre, with a passion and desire to share those experiences and skills with others. Our program includes classes, workshops and camps for children, teens and adults.
