Preschool to Post-High School

You can and, with your gifts to PCEF, you have! Through two of PCEF's biggest program investments, Preschool and Bright Futures, you are transforming the lives of Park City's children.
Long-term studies are unequivocal; quality, affordable preschool increases high school graduation rates, years of college completed, and lifetime earned income. For every dollar invested in preschool, the returns in savings to the community are as high as 20%!
"The All-Day Preschool program was so great," says Beth, a mom of three PCSD kids. "Not only did my daughter learn to read, even better, she fell in love with going to school."
"The results we are seeing from the
Preschool Program are excellent" says Preschool Director Kathy Anderson. "Our first cohort is in 5th grade now, and, throughout each grade, the kids who went through the program are out-performing their peers."
On the other end of the spectrum,
Bright Futures
is preparing first generation high school students with the
skills they need to get to, and through, college. Nationally, only 11% of low income, first generation college students graduate.
"We wanted to change those odds in Park City," says PCEF Executive Director Abby McNulty. "We modeled Bright Futures after the Bright Prospect program in California. It has a long-term college graduation rate of 90%."

ot only has Bright Futures made me realize what I am capable of, it has reassured me that my hard work will one day pay off.
I
have found my voice as a minority, I will continue to break stereotypes, and I will be going to college because of Bright Futures."

Calling All Volunteers - Celebrate Dr Seuss's Birthday and Read to Elementary Students!
You're Never Too Old, Too Wacky, Or Wild, To Pick Up A Book And Read To A Child!

, PCSD will take part in Read Across America, a celebration of early childhood literacy. For every
volunteer reader, PCEF will donate a book to an elementary classroom. We want to
donate nearly 300 books
this year, but we can't do it without you! Sign up below:

February EVA Lesson
In celebration of Black History Month, the February EVA lesson explored the work of Faith Ringgold, who took the traditional craft of quilt making and re-interpreted its function to tell stories about her life and the lives ofothers in her community. Students will learn about primary, secondary, and complimentary colors to make a paper quilt collage in Ringgold's style.
EVA is a collaboration between the
Kimball Art Center and PCEF. PCEF donors provide $90,000 to fund EVA.

Teacher Spotlight: Jenn Schwendiman

Began teaching in 2010 and has been with PCSD her entire teaching career

- Moved to Park City in 2nd grade, PCSD alumnus
Married to a another PCHS alumni, Aaron, and has two daughters, Margot (4) and Olive (2)
- Loves being outside in the sunshine running, swimming, and biking
Jenn points to her Mom as her inspiration for teaching. "My sister and brother are both dyslexic so I watched my Mom use different learning strategies and interventions to help them. While it was difficult to see them struggle in school, it was inspiring to see my Mom do whatever it took to help them succeed.
"Teaching is great because of my students and co-workers. The best part is when students realize they have grasped a concept they have been working really hard on. It's thrilling to see the joyous look of satisfaction on their faces.
"I love teaching because I love
problem
solving and each day is completely different. I get to work with
phenomenal team of teachers, paraprofessionals, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech pathologist, and behavior support staff." She also credits Kathy Anderson, Preschool Director, with leading this team and playing a crucial role in the program's success.
"I currently have my four year old in the MPES full day program and am looking forward to sending my three year old next fall!"
NOTE: The preschool program has been a recipient of PCEF funding since its inception in 2011, including a $160,000 signature grant from PCEF this year to help offset tuition and keep costs low for working families.
