Debra Ruzinsky Speaks at Symposium

"While many educational institutions focus on theory and conceptual strategies, some programs put a premium on technical mastery as a centerpiece of the curriculum. In this panel discussion, representatives of the Appalachian Center for Craft - a campus of Tennessee Tech University's School of Art, Craft & Design in Smithville, Tennessee; Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina; and Palomar College in San Marcos, California, will discuss their approaches and outcomes."

Mark your calendars for
Holiday Festival
, which will take place Saturday and Sunday, Nov 18 and 19. Receive 20% off all artwork in the retail sales gallery both days, kids crafts and short workshops for adults are also available, as well as, food specials at the Blue Water Grill on the Hill.
During a special preview Friday, November 17, 6 – 9 p.m., participants receive 25% off all items in the retail sales gallery and can stay for a holiday inspired meal in the Blue Water Grille on the Hill – please register if you would like to attend Friday’s dinner or

Kimberly Winkle, former AIR and Director of the School of Art, Craft & Design, has work included in the invitational exhibition entitled,
Gender Bend: Women in Wood, Men at the Loom, at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA.
Winkle
will also be speaking at the invitational seminar, Craft Think Tank, where she will present on the School’s academic program at the Appalachian Center for Craft and her leadership of that program.

Aaron McIntosh, BFA fibers 2006, now Assistant Professor in the Craft and Materials Study program at Virginia Commonwealth University,
will open an inaugural show of his "
Invasive Queer Kudzu

Fall and spring workshops are designed to give complete beginners, advanced beginners, or those who want to brush up their skills access to hands-on experiences in blacksmithing, clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood.
Most one-day workshops meet 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturdays except as noted in workshop descriptions. All materials, use of tools and equipment and lunch are included in the workshops fee. Register and sign up to explore the possibilities.

Artist of the Month | Jon Watson
|
The Gallery's Artist of the Month for October is Jonathan Watson. Currently the Artist in Residence at the Appalachian Center for Craft, Jonathan is developing a body of work inspired by his interest in science, especially astronomy.
Additionally, the Gallery will be holding a fall sale for the entire month of October.
All items in the gallery will be discounted 20%
The Appalachian Center for Craft Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from Noon to p.m. (CT).
