Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,

DECA State Winners

Last weekend, Sims Academy DECA members attended the DECA State Career Development Conference in Atlanta. Our students enhanced their skills in leadership and entrepreneurship. Every member participated in a competitive event that prepared them for careers in Marketing, Hospitality, Business, and Finance.

* Amber Juarez (WBHS), Mariana Padilla (AHS), and Vicky Rodriguez (AHS) placed first in the Civic Consciousness Project.
* Bo Robinson (WBHS) placed third in the Community Service Project.

Both teams will be advancing to the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta this April. Sims Academy DECA Advisors include Leigh Snyder, Tywanda Mathis, and Brandi Chitty.

Future Environmental Engineer

Liam Beckemeyer brought home the Gold for Russell Middle School at the Regional Science Fair with his Environmental Engineering project "Solid Waste or Natural Resource". Earning the Top Junior Division Project, this is the second year in a row Liam will move on to State competition. Students engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM) learning are expected to utilize all four C's of 21st Century Skills: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking. Expectations for all competitive projects meet those published by the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF).

All American

Winder-Barrow High's Olivia Nelson-Ododa is thrilled to receive her McDonald's All American jersey! A year ago, Olivia wasn't entirely sure that she'd come back as the same dominant player after a knee injury ended her season and sidelined her for most of the summer.   See more!
