On a school visit, a lovely parent made a cartoon sketch of me. I thought it was pretty fun. Here's a site (Fiverr) that does fun cartoon portraits (sadly for a small fee). It might be fun to let students draw their own cartoon sketches of themselves as a St. Valentine's gift for someone at home! Or are you brave enough to let kids draw you? Scholastic's Graphix has a fun site where you can make your own graphic novel. Scroll down just a bit to see it.

It's always a joy to visit a school, especially so when Mrs. Jeepers visits too! Kudos to Jana Strader who went above and beyond. Not only did she encourage her students to meet me during last spring's Girls Read Tour (so Tates School could win a free visit from me), she dressed up as a certain scary teacher to make things even more fun!

Every month I proclaim an honorary Mermaid Queen or King. I look for someone who is dedicated to providing wonderful literacy experiences to children and/or encourages ecology. This month's Mermaid Queen does both! She is the founder of AUTHORS FOR EARTH DAY, of which I am a part. Authors for Earth Day visit schools to share their writing experiences, books, and touch on ecology. The best part? They donate all, or a portion, of their fees to the Earth Day cause the school selects. I hope your school will participate. (The visit can be anytime the rest of this school year).
