As you make resolutions or set goals for this new year, I would like for you to consider the idea of practicing fierce self care. Why fierce? Sometimes our thoughts and habits get in the way of our best intentions. Excuses and disempowering thoughts can put our mental, physical, spiritual or emotional health at risk. Merriam Webster defines fierce as “being marked by unrestrained zeal or vehemence.” Imagine the paradigm shift in our society if we all were to practice self care with unrestrained vehemence!

In 2018, students are exposed to more technology than ever before. Upon entering the workforce many of our students will work jobs which rely on technology innovation and functionality that hasn't even been thought of yet. Exposing students to coding applications and activities lays the foundation to prepare them for the future world they will one day create. At UHS, and in many Urbandale CSD classrooms, coding is happening behind the scenes; teaching our students the basics of coding and computer science.
